with an Administration determined to break or disassemble so many functions of the federal government.
Would an earmark to fund enough inspectors for the Consumer Product Safety Commission to do their job, for example,
be such a bad thing,
after the President decided not to ask for money to pay their salaries ?
I remember the Commissioner going on TV,
telling me to trust manufacturers to do the right thing.
The problems with lead paint on toys that children put in their mouths,
that would work itself out.
I think this is a smart move. He is swearing off something he has had no ability to get in the past. I think I’ll swear off threesomes with Paris Hilton and Wonder Woman. I’ll also give up buying Fortune 100 companies after too many drinks.

So everyone will promise “I won’t seek earmarks for my district.” And then they’ll just make back-door deals with other lawmakers: you support an earmark for my district, and I’ll support one for yours. No change.
