Scratch one talking point for the Wadhams/Schaffer machine, as the AP reports:
Colorado congressman Mark Udall said he will not seek money for pet projects in Colorado this year.
The Democrat and candidate for Senate joins a growing number of House members who have sworn off so-called “earmarks” as bad public policy.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is considering a ban on home-district projects sought by lawmakers. Republicans, led by Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio – one of only 23 House members who don’t take earmarks – have been bashing Democrats for months on the issue.
Earmarks are extremely popular with lawmakers, but they have come under attack in the wake of high-profile boondoggles like the proposed $223 million “bridge to nowhere” in Alaska.

consider the current situation,
with an Administration determined to break or disassemble so many functions of the federal government.
Would an earmark to fund enough inspectors for the Consumer Product Safety Commission to do their job, for example,
be such a bad thing,
after the President decided not to ask for money to pay their salaries ?
I remember the Commissioner going on TV,
telling me to trust manufacturers to do the right thing.
The problems with lead paint on toys that children put in their mouths,
that would work itself out.
I think this is a smart move. He is swearing off something he has had no ability to get in the past. I think I’ll swear off threesomes with Paris Hilton and Wonder Woman. I’ll also give up buying Fortune 100 companies after too many drinks.
Wow, WW is 56 years old! What happened?

So everyone will promise “I won’t seek earmarks for my district.” And then they’ll just make back-door deals with other lawmakers: you support an earmark for my district, and I’ll support one for yours. No change.
Wow. He’s swearing off something he did with gusto in the past and has no chance of doing now anyway, since the budget was just completed. This is a great talking point for Schaffer – another UTurn for UDall.
Disinterested17 is right.
