Hard to believe it, but after hearing Douglas Bruce on this afternoon’s Caplis & Silverman I actually feel kind of sorry for the guy. I think he got a raw deal on the per diem issue that arose today.
Bruce pointed out that he does not keep any of his legislative pay or per diem: he donates it all to charity.
Had that issue been reported along with the rest of the story, some of the spin might have been different.
Unfortunately for him, Bruce continued to engage in the type of pettifoggery and foolishness that endears him so to Democrats, quibbling with Craig Silverman over whether the proper term for what he had refused to support was an “initiative” or a “resolution,” and absolutely refusing to even consider whether he might have done things a little differently.
If Bruce could just show the slightest shred of humility and humor, he’d be much more effective. Good thing he doesn’t realize that.
