"It is lamentable, that to be a good patriot one must become the enemy of the rest of mankind."
–Voltaire

You guys are an hour early here, heading up to ski some pow??
Anyway, related to Castle Rock open carry:
if anyone is, or knows, Mr. Jamie LaRue of CR, please ask him to contact me at my confidential e-mail address. Thank you.
And, thank you you Alva.
( . . . this PSA probably shoulda' been a diary, huh? . . . )
Ya' know . . . while we're at it . . . sometimes I have no idea what the hell Voltaire is saying . . .
. . . just sayin' . . .
I think he's alluding to the kind of jingoism that equates loving your own country with hating other people's.You know. Like when we were all supposed to hate anything French when they declined to help us invade Iraq for no good reason. Freedom fries. Dirty looks from the guy behind you at checkout when buying a nice Bordeaux. We're number one. Everybody else sucks. That kind of thing.
I kept right on collecting, at perhaps depressed prices.
So far it's working out well.
Why do we still have this team name?
The code war is on. And in Egypt they've been working for about 6 hours so far. This is so cool to see something very positive occuring there in the midst of all the bad news.
Oh baby – must read article at BusinessInsider (presently on the front page).
Good work there, my friend….
David, Nice gift to others.
Thank you (both of you).
Anxiously waiting for the results and wanting to know what the puzzle was.. bet it was a good one 🙂
Here you go – the game! And the results go up here at noon.
I've received a ton of thank-yous from the students, and the professors. My company doesn't benefit from this and it's pretty expensive to put on. But still, worth every bit of the effort.
I'm definitely an old man though. I worked a straight 13-1/2 hours yesterday and I was wiped at the end. Some of our interns left to go party after working all day.
As to the future – these kids are going to rock it.
Congratulations on implementing an innovative project that encourages students, David. Good publicity for your company, as well.
And, in the complete fool category.
http://larrysarnerforcongress.com/ to run against Jared.
I didn’t actually find anything resembling a platform or issue statements or, really, anything of that sort.
did I just miss it?
Looks like a sacrificial elephant to me. I guess they've gotta run somebody.
A map to drive certain Republicans crazy.
As Corky Gonzales said, "We didn't cross the border. The border crossed us."
I am always angered by those red-necked white folks who talk about sending people " back to where they came from". There were spanish speaking people here long before the "white eyes" showed up with their diseases and their whiskey. It isn't "the Red River"…it is "the Colorado".
And even before that it was "Aha Kwahwat" to the Mohave tribe and "Ha Tay G'am Sil Gsvgov" to the Havasupai. For millenia it was not a "border"…just a nuisance to cross in the springtime.
and, of course, I'm referring to the "Pecos" here, not the Colorado.
Yikes…
maybe I should go back to bed…I was not referring to the Pecos…I was referring to the Rio Grande.
It just didn't cross far enough.
Look it up. The treaty that "settled" things in 1852 was sabotaged, or mismanaged due to ineptitude. He was directed to include the Colorado river Delta, the Baja, and, of corse, the rail friendly terrain of the Sonoran Desert. We bought the flattest parts shortly after, but Trist screwed up the last 160 years of US Mexican border management. The cartels must love that guy.

I can't do pictures… http://www.transboundarywaters.orst.edu/publications/register/images/northamerica.gif
Pictures are way too fun not to use. First find a picture you like online, at the best size and resolution possible. Right click on that image until you see a link that says " copy image location". Copy that url. Then go back to your comment. Click on the little picture icon above (3rd row down, extreme left, of course).
Paste the image url in the "url" line and press OK. The image should appear in your post. Submit the comment. That's all! Other instructions for the esoteric CK editor which Pols uses are available at the ? icon above.
And when that doesn't work?
Try, try again. There are some formats that don't work – gifs sometimes won't. Very large file sizes sometimes won't work. Uploading images from your home computer won't work unless Pols places it for you. Same with videos in diaries. But generally, if it's an online jpg with an actual location for the image itself, as opposed to the page address, it does work.
Great map
indeed….
really cool
Interpolate that into this

(I still can't do pictures.. esp with comments)
I see Los Estados Unidos from Cabo to Key West, including both Colorado and Pecos deltas.
Speaking of cool maps

Very cool.
Breaking News….
Phillip Seymour Hoffman is dead of an apparent drug overdose……
sad. A great performer
Three interesting articles:
I read the Confessions piece. If I was in charge of the TSA, I'd be scared.. I'd be thinking, "Damn! They're on to us." I've always known that most of what they do is just for show. It pacifies the FoxNews crowd and doesn't do a damned thing for real security. They missed the panty-bomber, after all. TSA is nothing but a damned inconvenience for the vast majority of travelers. So much so that last fall my wife and I drove to Chicago for our neice's wedding rather than tolerate the crap that is involved in flying these days.
Why does President Obama insist on giving Fox News Channel credibility it doesn't deserve?
The play semi-nice with him for one hour during the year, then berate, belittle, lie about, and smear him the remaining 364 days and 23 hours.
It's Stockholm Syndrome writ large and he should not be doing it.
Stockholm Syndrome? Hardly. He won't stop taking the high road. That why he outclasses them.
He would make them more important by refusing.
