I saw this story in one of the Sunday magazines, and i was intrigued enough to go looking for the original story. Here’s where I found it http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=90114.
I’m not really surprised by the numbers, but some of the reasons the children gave were pretty funny.

I find it sad. Right after Obama was elected, I was working at a mostly black and hispanic Denver high school. I really saw a difference in pride and optimism, particularly in some of the young men.
Now, after five years of nonstop fake scandals, birtherism, Faux news, etc, it's no wonder that young people would not aspire to be someone who is hated by 30% of the population.
It is sad, MamaJ. I was referring to some of their specific reasons. But they do see it as a thakless job, where a lot of people literally hate you. The glory and glamor that made previous generations aspire to it, began to tarnish in the Nixon era and by the Clinton presidency, it had just plain rusted.
