  1.    According to this morning’s RMN, the oversight board appointed to monitor former New Life Church Pastor Ted Haggard’s “restoration” has ceased doing so at his request.

It’s unclear whether he’s decided that he’s all “cured” or simply accepting reality.

    1. “the process of restoring Ted Haggard is incomplete and (New Life) maintains its original stance that he should not return to vocational ministry.”

      1. The link is worth reading. The writing strives to be fair and balanced: it doesn’t portray the strikers as angels, for instance.

It was interesting to discover the blog. Thanks. The authors’ reasons for the blog’s existence proved interesting, as well. For example:

          2. Applying history to current events. Both of us sometimes do this in certain publications. But this is a readier, less filtered outlet for such observations.

          3. The historical profession. Both of us have been on the job market a number of times greater than one. We got our degrees during one of the worst job markets since the early 1970s, and have therefore pretty strong and reasonably educated opinions about the state of the profession today, and what that means for the production of historical knowledge.

  2. If exit polls were candies and nuts Barack Obama would be having an early Christmas. Exit polls in NJ and California were wrong by a lot.

Sen. Bob Menendez is one of the few pols who truly has a political organization that can deliver. That is why NJ went for Clinton.

Pueblo’s large Hispanic population and the strong support of Senator Abel Tapia made Pueblo County one of two Colorado counties to go for Clinton. Tapia will likely get a job from the plum book if Hillary goes the distance

Barack Obama’s Colorado team made incredible use of the Internet.  They truly showed what an effective high tech campaign can do.

Jared Polis has spent over $1 million to date. $700,000 as of January 1 and a huge TV and direct mail buy after January 1. At best he is locked in a close race for delegates with a candidate who spent one-third what he spent. Clearly, the message he was selling was not being bought by the thousands of first time caucus attendees.

The grassroots, netroots, rotorooters or whatever the group that Polis spent so much time and money courting did not turn out for him. Or, more likely they did turn out and voted for Joan or Will.

Ed Perlmutter’s CD 7 turned out a huge vote for Obama. Perlmutter will be the Colorado point person for Obama if he is the nominee and will be the go to guy for jobs in Colorado if Obama goes the distance.

    1. and I’ll ask again.  What exits were you looking at?  CNN, WaPo, and MSNBC were all dead in NJ and CA…do the math.  Unless you were glued to the BS coming out of Kos, the exits were some of the best in any primary or caucus this year.

NJ clearly went for Clinton b/c she does better in big markets than Obama, not b/c of Bob Menendez.  Obama’s strength is in caucus states.  He’d had success in others obviously, but he’s hands down a better candidate in the caucus states.

  3. Having lived in the 6th CD for all my life and being an active member of the Republican party in the 6th I will be posting from time to time on the happenings of the primary race from the GOP side.

    The first installment…

    Park County Caucus Straw Poll:

    Coffman 26

    Harvey 1

    Armstrong 1

    Ward 0

      1. The rub in the 6th with many folks is Steve Ward is for Steve Ward.

He has never been very active with many groups in the 6th and has no base outside of Centennial and the Arapahoe County Republican Mens Club. He is also the most moderate of all the candidates not a good thing in a GOP primary.

If and it’s a big if, he can raise the money he might be competitive using his recent military experience. I think he would need more than $200k on the next report. And likely more than $750k for the primary.

          1. Coffman 76 = 73.1%

            Armstrong 17 = 16.3%

            Harvey 9 = 8.7%

            Ward 2 = 1.9%

As far as splitting the vote my gut says he takes most from Coffman since they are both Military and from Arapahoe County. That assuming he can mount a credible campaign.

Also recieved my Harvey Caucus mailer, good endorsement piece the problem was it arrived the day after the caucuses, he needs to tighten up his mail operations.

            1. I don’t see how Armstrong can catch up in name ID and base supporters with only 6 mo. the rest of the field can’t raise any money. The campaign is already 1/3 over and Coffman maintains his comfortable lead.

      1. …compared to living in a household as the only male with 4 women. I never know what’s going on and I’m always wrong.

One funny part, all 3 of my daughters would always say “dad – why do you say and do such stupid things?” Then when they started dating, it changes to “dad – why do guys say and do such stupid things?” So eventually they come to realize it’s not me – it’s my gender 🙂

        1. Having lived in Utah for a while, I learned the official Utah state joke that seems to apply to your situation …

          Q.  What’s the penalty for polygamy/bigamy?

          A.  Two wives.

Beware.  This will usually result in beatings if you tell this joke in front of your wife.

    1. I am the mother of one teenaged son. I have come to understand that my expectation of flowers and chocolates from my husband was unrealistic, now that I have seen the male brain grow and develop. I have come to understand that men are generally oblivious and respond only to relentless nagging. You, dear Dave, have raised 3 daughters who will expect their boyfriends/husbands to shower them with flowers every Valentine’s Day. This is simply impossible. You have doomed my son and all those like him (i.e. all males) to anger and break-ups every Feb. 15, and you have doomed your daughters to eternal disappointment, at least until they have sons of their own and understand.

  4. In the CD 2 Straw polls

Eagle/Summit/Gilpin went about even for Polis/Fitz-Gerald

Fitz-Gerald narrowly won Jared’s home turf of Boulder County

In Adams and Broomfield every straw poll taken went overwhelmingly for Fitz-Gerald

Jared may have to petition on as he is hovering below the 30% threshold of delegates needed to make the ballot.

Overwhelmingly whether they favored Clinton or Obama, Democrats at the caucuses favored Fitz-Gerald.

After going through over $1 million just to do well in the caucuses Polis seems to have been defeated handily

  5. I fear my authoritarian, opaque, fascist government a hell of a lot more than OSB and his minions.  You do not own your life or have privacy reasonably thought any more.

“Goldberg, now that’s a Jewish name, isn’t it?”  From Ship of Fools

“Mohammed, now that’s an A-rab name, isn’t it?”  Thoughts of our border patrol
