How true this quote is for you, Colorado Pols. 🙂
It's true for all of us. You too.
Sure. The difference is, I don't pretend otherwise.
Like hell you don't. Your pro-bagger/pro-gun sexualizer posts indicate that you and reality have been bitterly divorced for years.
smirk, guffaw.
Not really, David. I'm not convinced that Moderatus "sees" things.
Or at least not things that are there.
Everybody knows reality has a strong liberal bias.

At least he's not your State Representative:

There should be a law against legislators flying blind and stupid while wielding massive influence over millions of their constituents' lives.
Davie, if there were such a law, half of Congress (and all of the Tea Party faction) would blunder through the revolving door of lobbying and influence-mongering. (instead of waiting until they retire or are defeated in an election to do that).
I know. It just amazes and disgusts me that so many of these bozos get elected. I guess districts get what they deserve. It's just unfortunate that they wield influence outside their own districts. But that's the nature of Democracy, for better or worse.
It takes an informed and engaged electorate to solve this problem.
Good luck with that, Davie. I live by something I call The Tigger (my real nickname) Principle. "People are stupid, ignorant and lazy. Given that, everything else makes sense."
Hmm. Pretty good approach for avoiding disappointment, and leaving plenty of room for pleasant surprises when people exceed your expectations 🙂
If you think that people are stupid, ignorant, and lazy, you have no future in politics–even behind the scenes. That's an insult to the average voter. I have more respect for the people than that.
I'm a number cruncher, not a politician. But still, what I'm always after is, "what do the people want?"
They mignt not always be right according to the way you or I might look at things, but they always get what they want. It might not always be the best for them, but it's what they want and dammit they got it.
The secret is to get them to want what you want.
Ralphie, I agree with you that the voters pretty much get what they want. In view of our local voters' selections – Tipton, King, Scott and Wright – we're getting it good and hard. So I disagree with you about respect for the voters. Why should I respect people who vote for those clowns, and then bitch that the Western Slope doesn't get respect?
Sorry Ralphie. I have two words to say about the average voter: reality television. Any more questios?
Apathy is mostly the result of not having any real choices . . .
. . . it just isn't all that hard to understand, or explain.
+10 Dio G. Your explanation of the causes of apathy is less judgmental of voters than other narratives that voters are "stupid" or "lazy". As in teaching, if one starts with the premise that "these kids can't" or "those kids will never…", not bothering to reach out to "stupid, lazy, reality TV obsessed apathetic voters" becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Pols is probably right in that some of the pro-66 outreach was mis-targeted, as well. In Colorado, you can't go wrong aiming for the moderate, unaffiliated voter.
Why this obsession to insult Elliott? Why would you not want to take seriously the one conservative who bothers to try to debate you on this forum? I'd rather say that I don't take his arguments seriously.
The PERA fungibility issue with A66 went on endlessly on this forum. It was full of hypothetical "What ifs". Elliott wanted us to admit that in some conservative imagined world, school administrators would take dollars allocated for schools before A66 and spend them on those darned contractually obligated teacher PERA pensions!
Yawn. Elliott, did any public polling ever show that the general public was moved by the above argument not to vote for Amendment 66? Just curious.
Woke up at 2 am, can't sleep…will try to find something more productive to do than post here…
Good Morning, mamajama55,
Welcome to my world! This is a time to be afraid, very afraid, because with one careless flick of the radio dial, you can find yourself in the maze of right wing talk radio….and there is a real danger of addiction….oh I know, people say that you can just try it once and leave it…..but it is risky
business.
I think the radio waves are hyponotic. Or, you could check out Coast to Coast AM for a more alien explanation….but then they can see into your home……
Warm milk and russian novels might be an antidote…but it only worked briefly for me……
Bingo! we have a winner. Spot on Dio.
Take our last Senate race where Bennet was clearly better than Buck but still what a choice. That was like choosing to have my arm broken over the alternative of having both arms cut off.
They're the universe you have to win over, notaskinnycook. They are what they are.
