  1. That’s what I thought, to get “great schools” we need to spend even more money. But that begs the question, can we ever have “great schools” if we don’t spend every penny on eduction?

I personally think we should get rid of the Department of Education and the NCLB Act.

  2. I second Barry.  I’m a strong supporter of education, but the federal Dept. of Ed and NCLB are retrograde moves.  The feds pay about 7 percent of the tab for 12 schools and more than offset that with their endless mandates.  The first step toward quality public schools is to get the federeal government the hell out of it.  It is a state responsibility and the U.S. Supreme Court ruled thus in the Rodriguez case.  That said, CEA is a great organization and deserves a bow.

  3. Public education needs to be buttressed by, and supported by, parents who aren’t exhausted from a ten hour day out of the house. When both parents have to work to have a decent style of living(not to mention health insurance, then put dinner on the table, change into something comfortable (not to mention having to unwind from working under various levels of stress all day long)-what’s left?

The reader can call me a socialist commie if they so choose. There is an inequity in distribution of the wealth of this country, which has enjoyed a rather innocent and acceptable perspective. Now however, the squeeze is on. Those at the top still don’t have enough. Those with power want to own it rather than earn it as they go.

The wealth distribution research will show that the top 1% own 38.1% of the wealth in the country, the next 4% own 21.3%, and the next 5% own 11.5%.  That is to say, the top 10% of the country owns 70.9% of the wealth of this nation!

Think about the ramifications of so few locking up so much so that they can……….get more? I can’t wait to read the smart bloggers who will find a quotable economist to refute this.

International diplomacy, improved tax policies, labor & wage policies, investment and health care policies, all can be improved to make for a safer(Homeland Security), more sustainable, more environmentally friendly state and country and world.

I personally believe that a major international effort has to be launched to reign in global over-population. The earth was always a small place, and it’s getting smaller. Conservation is key. Global peace depends on it.

    This rant’s for you.

  4. Yeah that’s a good idea. Make it so there is no incentive to work at all. Hell, then we can all quit our jobs because the government will take all the money from the rich bastards and give it to us. My problems are all solved now.
Oh yeah, until the economy completely collapses like Russia did. Good thinking.

  5. In the history of mankind, communism has never worked.  It is funny to me that we still have people who hang on to such obsurd ideas of wealth redistribution as if it will lead to some golden utopian society.

  6. Thanks to ColoradoPols for running the office pool and donating a clever prize.  I’m glad CEA could use it to promote public schools and American Education Week.

    Lucky is as lucky does!

    Larimer D
