This, complete with gratuitous East Coast snark about the “rough and tumble” West, was probably inevitable.
In the week leading up to his first day on the job, State Representative Douglas Bruce, a Republican, got into a lengthy dispute with the Democratic speaker of the House over the time of his swearing in…
On the day he took office, Jan. 14, Mr. Bruce did something more contentious. He delivered a swift kick to the knee of a photographer for The Rocky Mountain News who was snapping his picture during a ceremonial prayer. Mr. Bruce refused to apologize. The paparazzi, he defiantly told members of the House, would not leave him alone.
The kick was captured by a television camera, splayed across the Internet and led to a legislative inquiry that ended Thursday when Mr. Bruce, an antitax crusader from Colorado Springs who was appointed by his party to fill a vacancy, became the first member of the Colorado General Assembly to face censure…
The situation harks back to a day when Western statehouses were halls of brawling, boozing and ill repute. [Pols emphasis] Some legislatures, like that of neighboring New Mexico, have not entirely shed that reputation. But though political divisions can be bitter here, modern-day Colorado lawmakers have mostly remained civil toward one another…
Still, veteran lawmakers and members of the press corps here say the General Assembly used to be decidedly more rough and tumble, with a steady supply of beer and liquor available to legislators and occasional shenanigans and practical jokes.
“On the last day of the session, the air would be perfumed with alcohol,” said Fred Brown, a retired Capitol bureau chief for The Denver Post…
Throughout it all, much to the exasperation of fellow Republicans, Mr. Bruce has maintained that he had done nothing wrong.
Once again, Doug Bruce puts Colorado’s best foot forward.

but the photo that accompanies the New York Times article was taken by the photographer that Bruce kicked.
but it’s the picture that earned the kick!
The caption reads, “State Representative Douglas Bruce during a Colorado House prayer. A moment later Mr. Bruce kicked the photographer.”
On here? I’ve tried copy and paste, but I’ve had no luck
Right click on the image and then click properties. In the properties it will show the filename which in the case of this picture is http;//graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2008/01/25/us/25censure.600.jpg (note I did a ; instead of a : after the http so it stays as text)
Now enter the text <img src=”http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2008/01/25/us/25censure.600.jpg”/>
I went to the NY times article, then “viewed source” (under the “view” menu in Firefox, presumably the same menu in other browsers). This brings up a page of all the HTML for the web page.
Then I just searched for the correct image (photos in HTML all begin with the phrase “img src” – they all exist on some server and this code pulls the image from that computer). In order to be sure I had the right one, I searched for the full text of the caption, which appears in the HTML right below the image code.
Then I just copied the “img src” code and pasted it in my comment.
In order to see the code, click on the date/time stamp of my comment, so that your browser is only displaying that comment and the responses, then view source, and you should be able to see the full code line. Heck, why not copy and paste it into a comment of your own just for fun? (I assume no responsibility if every polster decides to do this and load up this thread with 50 copies of the same image.)

You rock!
He did that all the time at meetings. We don’t have to photo-shop anything
This guy doesn’t give a crap about being censured, but being ridiculed for picking his nose in public is the type of thing that’ll probably drive him crazy. Crazier.
But there’s been more than a couple people who have witnessed it-and thought about buying him tissues and such as a gift
Use this skill wisely – namely, you can impress your less-than-technically-inclined boss and coworkers and make them think you’re really skilled in all things computing. (Seriously – knowing just a bit more than her coworkers, like how to copy and paste with keyboard commands, may well have been the turning point in my wife’s career ten years ago.)
paste in email to boss reminding him I deserve a big raise…
For some reason I read the photo attribution, but not the photo’s caption before I posted.
Douglas Bruce is a blowheart and a bully. If he acts out again, there can be a case made for explusion.
On both sides of the aisle. If he acts up again he will be gone.
Unintentionally, of course.
Next time I want to cap someone’s knee or give someone an ass-whipping, remind me to take along a bag of Jelly Bellies: the “Jelly Belly Defense.”
What a complete and utter moron. I don’t think he has to worry too much about whether he’ll serve three versus four terms.
