Doug Bruce better batten down the hatches, secure the airlocks, and find himself a pair of shinguards because there is little doubt that his playground spitting, sand-kicking days may well be numbered…
“It does not help the conservative Republican image to have someone acting in this childish manner,” said Dane Nowels, a staunch conservative Republican and vice chairman of the El Paso County Republican Party. “I think this behavior will certainly encourage individuals to primary that seat for another candidate for next November’s election. There will for sure be a primary now, and this gives more strength to his opposition.”

Mark Waller – a Colorado Springs Air Force Reservist and Attorney – might indeed be heir apparent to the domitable Doug.

The only real election Bruce has ever had to win was his primary battle against Colorado Springs City Councilmember Margaret Radford. Bruce was able to use his bullying tactics against her to his advantage.
Won’t work with Mark Wells, he’ll eat Bruce’s lunch.
Does he have a website or anything?
So, who ya gonna call? A specialist, of course…Musgrave for Hire.
I have to wonder about the EPC GOP fallout. What’s going on with the vacancy committee members? Is the GOP leadership taking them to the woodshed at all? Will this create a schism down there? Bruce clearly has his fans. Has he lost any of them thanks to this?
From what I’ve observed, the only falling out has occured soley towards Mr. Bruce. His stock has dropped considerably. (See Newsman’s diary for some of my other observations regarding this subject) This could very well end his career.
Getting on the vacancy committee’s case about selecting Bruce isn’t a smart move. Bruce had a record to point to where as his opposition wasn’t as known, and they didn’t have a whole lot of time to make themselves known. And honestly speaking, the vacancy committee is now looking at who to select to fill Bruce’s vacancy on the County Commission.
But Bruce is the only one who has, should, and is taking the heat for his actions.
I think it’s one of those words that has legitimate variations in spelling, as it is dialectical. I spell it ‘kerfluffle’. But being a liberal, I’m not going to insist my way is the only way. 🙂
Did they know he would knee-cap a photographer? No.
But Bruce’s actions did not surprise anyone. They should have known there would be something causing this kind of blowback. And for that they should be held accountable.
Of course I’m a Dem, so I believe in accountability. I don’t know if they do the same in the EPC GOP… I hope they do.
A couple of days ago, I figured that the pubs brought on Bruce for 2 reasons:
Now, I realize that they may just have wanted to guarantee that a good primary would take place. After all, had the committee appointed somebody else, they might stand a real chance of running. Bruce has slim to no chance unless he changes his attitude and there is little chance of that.
If this is so, it is rather clever on the pubs part.
I would love to make that claim, but I try to be honest in my dealings, and I can only say I wish we had some grand design.
Bruce was appointed because he has helped several conservative causes, is a consistent (some say too) conservative (some say reactionary.) Doug will not vote for things the majority of HD-15 voters don’t like.
As an activist to harass the left, Doug was great, but Doug is not a politician. He does not play nice with the other children.
YES
When you hold the cards (like Delay, W., etc. did for 6 years), accomplish what your party wants, and you act like a jackass, it is seen as being strong and smart.
When you are on the weak side, accomplish nothing, and you try to deny the other side esp. with these kind of antics, you are seen as a total jackass.
I am guessing that if the dems remain in power, the ppl in CS. will be bright enough to know that DB is not an asset, but just an ass.
Don’t you have to be associated with someone to be the heir? 🙂 Seriously though, I did try to comment on how Doug might see how the wind is blowing and not run this fall to keep the office, but then I snorted milk out of my nose and almost shorted out the keyboard!
The very fact that we have someone running against a Republican incumbent in the primary says a lot about the lack of respect for, and confidence in, the current office holder. And Doug has been in only two days! I look forward to hearing more about Mr. Waller, even though I am not in HD 15.
