A campaign that began with much fanfare in Colorado ended with little more than a whimper on Thursday when Democrat Bill Richardson withdrew from the race for Secretary of State President.
From The Associated Press:
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson ended his long-shot bid for the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday after poor finishes in the first two contests in Iowa and New Hampshire.
He praised all of his Democratic rivals but endorsed no one. He encouraged voters to “take a long and thoughtful look” and elect one of them president.
Richardson said that although his support at the polls lagged the front-runners, many of his leading rivals had moved closer to his positions on such issues as the war in Iraq and educating young Americans at home.
What happened? Just a week ago his campaign was celebrating their “entry” into the “final four.”

He was a credible candidate, he ran a decent campaign, and it looked promising but never took off.
I’ll miss him. He’s a great guy, but NM is a small state and he didn’t build himself into a regional player in the West that would have made a VP pick more likely.
Does Edwards now get a bye week before going up against the winner in the Obama-Clinton game?
And a serious question…
Who will Vice President Richardson be endorsing now?
Richardson will probably wait until there is a clear front runner before he decides to make an endorsement. If he supports the wrong candidate it could hurt his chances as VP or SoS.
