We’ve already discussed the division between Bob Beauprez and the Republican base in the aftermath of Referenda C&D, and now it looks like those in the conservative blogosphere may be leaning towards Marc Holtzman.
Check out this sampling of what the conservative blogs are saying:
The Holtzman campaign has focus, innovation, energy, enthusiasm, and a broad and growing coalition of grassroots support. Pundits would be foolish to count them out, even after their unsuccessful vigorous campaign against Referenda C and D. Marc and his team appear ready to carry that same vigor and persistence into making their man the Republican Partys choice – and ultimately Colorados choice – for governor in 2006.
In fairness, I am (was) inclined toward Bob Beauprez in this race, more out of a loyalty to a man I’ve worked for on two campaigns than anything else. But I am now strongly reconsidering, though it’s WAY too early to talk endorsements yet.
As for the ground game and technology, the campaign is impressive. They’re already well ahead of where a campaign normally is, in terms of counting heads going into the convention. Holtzman also talked about using a VOIP conference-call technology that captured hundred of voters for over 45 minutes. Cool stuff.
While it’s still very early, this underscores the point we have been saying for a long time: Beauprez might be a better candidate, but Holtzman clearly has the better campaign. Holtzman has been reaching out to his base lately while Beauprez has been alienating them; the Beauprez campaign will need to right the ship quickly.

Holtzman’s campaign motto should be:
Style over substance.
Floyd, it worked for Bush.
Both Ways needs to get out now – before Hick gets in officially and before he looks like the biggist tool of Bruce Benson in history.
As an aside, a little birdy told me the MH camp is gearing up for a major assault against BB. Coming before the “love fest” and before anyone can beg for mercy.
As I said – this needs to be between Hick and MH – BB’s got way too much baggage and this C and D thing lost him much more than he wants to realize.
It sounds to me like these bloggers received a press release from the Marc Holtzman campaign. You bet–that’s organized, if not conventional politicking. Yawn.
Colorado Pols: Lame conservative blog “sample.”
They give hat tips to every other blog piece they cover, but when they finally produce evidence of a groundswell, the bb shills call it “lame”. Here’s lame: forcing a campaign from the top down instead of building one from the bottom up.
I tremble in fear at the “major assault” the Holtzman goons are readying. Hey, here’s a great idea: Call Beauprez a pig! That worked so well when you called supporters of C pigs.
Holtzman is history, repudiated at the polls a full year before the election.
BREAKING NEWS: Democrats start full court blog attack on Beauprez with no merit or substance. Stay tuned for… no new news…
Excuse me, how is this a “lame conservative blog sample”?
Three members of the Rocky Mountain Alliance sat down with Holtzman and came away leaning towards him. If you’re looking to sample conservative blogs in Colorado, that is one of the first places you go.
Unless there’s a massive community of conservative Colorado bloggers supporting Beauprez out there that I am missing, this is a pretty good sample.
When the Pols start quoting conservative blogs with respect, I get suspicious… And looking at this site’s home page, it looks like just another step in a rather pouty attack on Beauprez, who is clearly the leading voice of the Republican party in Colorado.

This is a just plain comical post… I’d like to think I am a decently knowledgeable R, but I’ve barely heard of these blogs, let alone look to them to tell me who to vote for. Go ahead and rip me for it, but I’m your everyman internet user.
This post is akin to saying a few hardcore R internet users don’t like BB. How exactly does that have a measurable effect on the votes he gets again? The scrutiny on this race a year out is hilarious. Check back on it all in 6 months. That’s when the electorate will.
“Beauprez, who is clearly the leading voice of the Republican party in Colorado.”
Surely you’re joking. What, pray-tell, has Beauprez been a “leading voice” on? You are aware that most of the criticism being leveled at your boss is due to the fact he has avoided being a “leading voice” on important issues, right?
Someone please tell me what the heck Holztman has done for the state of Colorado. He’s a carpetbagger hack. Holtzman is the leading voice on? Holtzman.
Bob Bo-pray has the gravitas of gnat and the political instincts of a… gnat.
Hickenlooper is a Denver businessman looking out for Denver/personal business interests.
Of the three aforementioned politicians, Bo-pray has the greatest statewide name recognition. That said, what other viable candidates are out there?
Looks like, right now, it?s Bo-pray vs. Ritter and we all know how that will turn out. The lesser of two weevils becomes governor.
A few hardcore R internet users didn’t like me either.
I’ve been watching these threads for awhile, and it always seems like BB’s people are the ones who jump up to accuse the Guvs (or in this case a bunch of HIGHLY RESPECTED conservative blogs) of bias or “being Dems” everytime they post something that doesn’t more or less suck his dick.
From a reader’s perspective, it’s kind of pathetic. May or may not affect who I vote for, but it’s pathetic and I wanted you to know.
Beauprez and Holtzman have higher name recognition than Hickenlooper?
On what planet, pray tell?
Ref C makes Holtzman a dead man and Beauprez is on life support.
Well, Hugh Hewitt (sp?) apparently liked these guys enough to add them to his network and put them on his show. So guess what – that gives them credibility. Like it or not.
More importantly, they all wrote about a similar experience — being swayed away from supporting Beauprez. That’s the crux here.
So if I have this right, the Holtzman campaign waited until the right time (post C and D?) to invite these guys over to sit down with Marc – irregardless of their potentially stated leanings toward Beauprez.
Then the three walk away having reconsidered the entire race and its candidates, and now they are all impressed and considering supporting Marc.
That?s the point here.
If I remember, Ben works for some conservative think tank and Michael wrote about working for Beauprez in the congressional races. I don?t know the other guy, but he seems to be a deep thinker with a strong financial background. But again ? what matters is that the campaign changed their minds.
You armchair politico?s have no idea how difficult it is to change an informed mind.
And Marc did it.
They wrote about an aggressive ground game operation in the campaign. One of them alluded to that ?Town Hall? the governors wrote about. But what else? There?s got to be something else happening over there that impresses folks?!? A passionate candidate? An experienced staff? A coalition of support? Is it that simple?
Must be.
Cletus is right. My guess is most of the posts here come from semi-connected, or wanna-be connected pols. Outside of Denver, Hick don’t matter. Bill and Andrew will be spending time, spending money–money from C if it isn’t challenged (see Quillen, 11-6). The Hick is busy hiring outside consultants to assist him in BEING The Mayor of Denver–not in running for Governor (see, The Denver Post, 11-6). The Denver Mayor is about fixing the City, if he ran with that job undone–and he lost–his political career would be over before it started. Ritter is being quiet while all the other announced candidates are vying for space. What does that mean? It sounds to me that much of the political news (and many of the posts) amounts to barking dogs–a pack of frustrated animals begging for attention.
Holtzman will spend a lot of money and lose. I’d love to work for his campaign.
Good find, goper. Facts are waaaay better than speculation.
Have to admit, I could care less about what any candidate’s paid staff thinks of them. Most of the are “insiders” that need the jobs because they have no skills other than campaigning and are hoping for the “big payoff” (jobs, etc) should their candidate win.
It is obvious to expect that they all love their candidate and think he/she is the best thing since sliced bread. And if they can’t believe that, then the candidate has more problems than just trying to win an election.
I am much more interested in hearing what the volunteers on any campaing have to say as they are not being paid to give the candidate any spin, but are doing it because they believe in a candidate. They are the ones I am interested in listening to.
GR– I get your point, however, Republicans ARE the free marketers. Don’t you think there are true believers in every camp, and some rational actors in the mix too? Pay rate is important inside campaigns–right, left and center.
This just in. An obscure third rate conservative blog site somewhere in Colorado with a readership of 5 said Marc has the momentum and gravitas to get it done. Marc has soared to the top of the big line.
Listening to a paid staffer about how great their candidate is is akin to listening to the commercials where a paid endorser talks about the latest miracle product.
It is to be expected that they support whatever the candidate wants as their paycheck depends on it…. regarless of their personal beliefs.
I have been around too many campaigns and have seen that it is typically the usual suspects that last week were talking trash about the candidate and this week are on the dole, or they support guy #2 because guy #1 wouldn’t give them a job.
Show me the number of volunteers on a campaign, and let me here what they have to say if you want me to believe it.
As far as the blogosphere goes, if campaigns have people monitoring them, then they can be manipulated by the campaigns.
This is a joke, right?
Three bloggers were granted a personal interview with Mark Holtzman last week. They were either charmed by him, or were led to reconsider their support for Beauprez. They each went and blogged about it, in some cases copying and pasting the same text.
Then Colorado Pols takes the three entries from these three obscure conservative blogs and considers it “what the conservative blogosphere is saying.” Well, no–it’s what three guys all treated to special attention by the Holtzman campaign now think.
But please continue to amplify that odd little echo chamber. Watching the BB and MH folks savage each other is too much fun.
Does anyone have a REAL poll showing BB and MH? And, do any members of this blog understand odds-making?
