( – promoted by Colorado Pols)
With Iowa voting tomorrow, I thought it would be fun to have a Pols straw Poll.
This poll is for Democrats or those who lean Democrat.
If the Primary were being held today, who would you vote for?

This time, as four years ago, I’d vote for Gore if he were running. Since he’s not, Edwards is the obvious choice.
His name would be on the list. Pretend it’s a ballot 🙂
Thanks for participating
But since he is not, I can not vote.
HRC’s attack campaigning turns me off. Edwards was a trial lawyer – enough said.
I am following Pols request, though it should be obvious that I lean more dem than pub.
This has been the softest campaign in years. All of the campaigns including Obama’s have been talking about the others in speaches but none of them attacked each other in any ads.
like Hillarys’ campaign supporter, forgot his name already, saying the pubs are going to make hay out of Obama’s comments about his past drug use. Lame.
and Obama not doing anything about it. Hillary at least spoke out against it, said she was sorry and had him step down. When Obama’a fundraiser attacked hillary early on Obama wouldn’t say one way or the other that was lame.
” He started it ! ”
Obama can’t win – voters don’t like Dems who push for tax increases on the middle class.
Hillary can win, but not easily.
Edwards can compete everywhere, plus he actually explains progressive values, rather than just listing issues. The way he lays out the morality of addressing global warming, poverty, etc. is exactly what the Dem party needs.
And how do voters feel about people who think making $100,000 per year qualifies you as middle class?
In Arkansas, it would go far. San Fransico, not so much.
So it’s middle class
Not the middle, but middle class. Two wage earners making $50K/year each is not uncommon at all. Folks like that – probably some Polsters – have to pay their kid’s college, no student aid.
In fact, if Edwards doesn’t take the time to point out to those folks how they are being shafted under current policies, he is missing an opportunity.
I couldn’t agree more. The more clearly and often this is done, the more sure the Republican victory in 2008 will be.
I said the more Edwards explains what liberals want to do, Increase Taxes, Increase entitlement programs, Expand lawsuit awards and make this his vision of the 2 America’s, “the more sure the Republican victory in 2008 will be”.
You gripe because Sir Robin read between your lines, but you do the same to mark. Hmmmm. Of course, did I just become part of the fly by media for writing about that?
Although maybe a little more diplomatically. Of the big three Dem candidates, I think Edwards is the most beatable. Only my opinion, and I don’t mean it with malice, so relax, but I think he has some huge issues, and is far from believable in his class warrior stuff.
And no, I didn’t vote in this one.

My shortened quote
I added nothing between the lines.
And I don’t say this with malice either. The Dem’s are my political adversaries, not my enemies. I am a former Democrat.
I never said and don’t think Republicans are going to sweep America like 1984 or 1994. I wish !
Yeah, you are right. I was debugging some code and only fully paying attention.
I screw it just like everyone else, just not this time.
I enjoyed and appreciated your response.
NEWSMAN
I just got home tonight after spending the last week in Iowa to celebrate Christmas with the relatives. John Edwards came through my hometown on New Year’s Eve for an appearance at the local VFW post, so I took my mom to see him.
I have to say that I did not see the “angry” man that the corporate media keeps harping about. Edwards was very personable, and he spoke mostly about the need to rein in corporations, provide health care coverage for everyone, and about getting American troops out of Iraq as soon as possible.
I counted over 200 attendees at the event, nearly all supporters. A few folks that I spoke with said that this was the biggest turnout they had seen for any candidate so far, and some had seen everybody except Kucinich and Gravel.
My hometown usually goes with the winner, so I am predicting that Edwards will be the victor in the Iowa caucuses.
I am glad to see that I am on the opposite side of Laughing Boy. Now I know Edwards will win…
Neither I nor LB made a prediction about Iowa.
My point was about the 2008 general election. I believe John Edwards is not only the most easily beat of the top 3 Dem candidates, I think his selling and explaining liberal values (if continued) will help Republicans defeat Democrats in many areas. Especially in Red States.
The Democrat that concerns me is Obama. Although he is inexperienced and that can be used against him, he has a truly hopeful and fresh campaign. He reminds people of JFK, and inspires a wide range of people.
That is much harder if you are on the other side to beat than a millionaire “class envy” Trial Lawyer.
Edwards will speak to the concerns of the vast middle over their economic insecurity and the future for their kids and will deliver a message of fair opportunity (not mandates, not equal outcomes) for all. And that will sell.
the world of progressive talk radio as exemplified by thoughtful progressives like Thom Hartman. Ed Schultz is also clearly leaning hard toward Edwards. In Hartman’s straw polls a majority always goes for Edwards. There is a reason for this.
As for his being a trial lawyer, unlike many of the lawyers who work for the big corporations, trial lawyers often actually help people. That famous Shakespearean quote about killing all the lawyers is spoken by a villain in recognition of the fact that the rights of the people are more easily taken away when they no longer have lawyers to protect them. See Pakistan.
Almost every Dem and left-leaning independent who would vote for Clinton or Obama, will vote for Edwards over a Republican if that’s the choice. Many of those indies, however, will simply NOT vote for Clinton and if Obama’s support is based on the youth vote we’re always hoping to get, good luck with that.
so I will let you have fun.
As of 4:53 PM (MST), these are the results:
Hillary Rodham Clinton – 16 votes (13.45%)
Barak Obama – 35 votes (29.41%)
John Edwards – 47 votes (39.5%)
Joe Biden – 4 votes (3.36%)
Bill Richardson – 5 votes (4.2%)
Chris Dodd – 2 votes (1.68%)
Dennis Kucinich – 9 votes (7.56%)
Mike Gravel – 1 votes (0.84%)
Edwards wins, and would be the nominee if we were awarding delegates.
Almost as many people voted for Edwards (47) as voted in the Republican poll (49). In total, 117 of you voted in this poll. That means that 70% of the votes were cast in the Dem Fun Poll, 30% in the Republican Fun Poll.
But the fun will continue. Since the Republican poll produced a tie, we’ll have a run-off for that poll. The winner of that run-off will face John Edwards in the next fun poll!
But hopefully it’s still “fun”. 🙂
