Wow – this is my district. I feel like I never get any of the good gossip. I have to say, I did write David a letter and he responded immediately. I had never heard of him before he ran and although I didn’t vote for him, I was impressed with his prompt response. So what it his motivation for trying to move up so quickly? How long has he lived in Colorado? Seems like anyone who is collecting $1k checks and trying to move as quickly as he is is probably up to something. I would love to hear people’s opinions about him!
Balmer is the real deal.
More than one Democratic lobbyist is admitting that Balmer may be the next Speaker. The Republican caucus sees a man who can lead them back to the Majority.
I thought house candidates can only raise $400 per person per election?

Balmer isn’t raising money for himself.
David is a bright land use and environmental lawyer who’s been in the state close to 10 years. He served in Afghanistan as a major and I think he was in Bosnia as well. Smart, very detail oriented, cautious, hard working, political. He generally keeps his mouth shut on controversial issues and works to support the party.
My guess, and it’s only a guess, is that he wants a leadership position as soon as possible so he can be his party’s leaders in the House for the next six to 14 years. As a guy who is good at making things happen, Balmer would be a strong leader, imho. I think he was minority leader in N.C.
I don’t see him running for governor or Congress any time soon, if ever. Serving in the legislature allows him to keep his very good full-time job. Running for higher office would cost him a bundle, I’d bet. And why anyone wants to serve in a higher office in this state or in Congress is beyond me.

I sure second you on that one, Don. The brutish nature of our political process today and the total lack of privacy makes running for office as alluring as swimming in a sewer.
I know David and consider him a friend. He’s a total straight shooter and has been nothing but loyal and extremely easy to access. He did do Bosnia as well. As far as I know, he’s rasing money for his campaign; but did chair and run a golf tourney for a CO GOP congressional fund-raiser and blew it out of the water.
If Balmer is not raising the money for himself, what entity is receiving the funds? The GOP? their House Majority Project?
Men and women of true heart and character; individuals who place their own welfare and safety second to the common good, could care less about the “brutish nature of politics”.
History is replete with such individuals, who, rightly so, are earmarked as exceptional. We should not disuade them, but celebrate and nurture more like them. The future will need them.

Legislators are allowed to form PACs, just like everyone else. It’s pretty common. My guess is that is what Balmer is doing.
