"Stronger infrasrecture"?
I was kinda hoping we could just throw in the towel on the roads, bridges and other transportation assets lost or damaged int he flood. Local roads, private roads and especially toll bridges. It's the market solution. If Boulder and other towns are left more remote as a result- and would rather not be, they can put up…or not.
And when all the people who downstream (from the Flats, the Arsenal, the overrun sewage plants, the over chemciallized golf courses, fracking storage tanks, and anything else that effluenced something nasty) start demanding something be done- I say let personal responsibility and pay your own way rule the day – get your upstream "neighbors" to do their part. It has worked so well in Parachute creek – you'll have no trouble getting the sherriff in Weld county get right on top of that priority.
Breaking radio silence here to tell you that I spoke to Middle of the Road this morning. She's been evacuated from her Estes Park home because of a leaky roof that caused ceiling damage, but the rest of the house is intact. Her business, thankfully, is intact. She's doing OK.

I've heard that Estes Park may be closed until late Spring. No way to get the infrastructure fixed before snow makes that impossible.
I've heard that too. Looks like, though loss of life and number of homes destroyed and people displaced will not equal Katrina the economic disaster might with so many businesses unable to reopen, especially in areas like Estes Park that rely on the full length of the tourist season to stay in the black, so many people thrown out of work, loss of infrastructure, loss of livestock. Same goes for the Jersey Shore with all that investment in rebuilding wiped out by fire, Manitou Springs with two summers in a row a disaster for local merchants and all the other communities, coast to coast, hard hit this past two years by storm and fire disasters.
Meanwhile, the stock market is back to making substantial gains which tells you just how much Main Street issues have ceased to be a concern of the Wall Street elite. But really, only having to share a measly 5% of post Great Recession gains with 99% of us, and with most of the top 1 percent's 95% share going to only the top fraction of that one percent, a handful of Masters of the Universe, what do they care? The rest of us aren't a blip on their screen. Just no account riff raff.
And we really started speeding down on this road, full steam ahead, with the sainted Ronald Reagan, the guy even Obama loves to tip his hat to. The guy they wanted to add to Mt. Rushmore. Incredible. If people had a clue they'd more likely be burning him in effigy.

Ugh. Somehow that doesn't surprise me. They need to get at least basic road connectivity restored before then – they can't get out over Trail Ridge all winter, and CO-7 isn't up to sustained traffic.

Why are we getting flood updates from L.A.? It's not like the local stations are ignoring it.
On a different thread, Logan, Morgan, Washington and Weld counties are on the list for Federal disaster aid as part of Colorado. Shouldn't Weldistan be making a claim in their own right as the separate state they want to be? Why should they be sharing in Colorado's money? And they should definitely be asking the EPA for help cleaning up the frack-well mess the floods made-we'll all drink it downstream.
You think this will convince anyone there that there are more important make or break issues than the number of bullets in a magazine and more dreaded words than "I'm from the government and I'm here to help"? Probably not.
