Not happy having loss all credibility with the Governor of Wyoming, one of America’s largest energy producers, snake oil salesman Greg Schnacke from the industry-front group Americans for American Energy, is now taking on the mayors of Colorado’s most productive natural gas basin.
Energy group attacks Ireland for stance on drillingCurtis Wackerle – Aspen Daily News Staff Writer
Aspen Mayor Mick Ireland is taking heat from a natural gas advocacy group. They are engaged in a tête à tête with nine Roaring Fork and Colorado River valley mayors debating whether to drill on the Roan Plateau.
On Friday, Ireland and every mayor between Aspen and Parachute sent a letter to the leaders of Americans for American Energy, a group that supports the latest Bureau of Land Management plan to drill for natural gas on top of the Roan Plateau. The letter expressed “growing dismay” with reguard to statements AAE has made asserting that not drilling the Roan would empower terrorists by pumping more money into foreign energy.
Schnacke’s group made the news a while back after pissing off Governor Freudenthal for implying that he supported drilling the Roan Plateau. Then he irked Colorado’s governor, whose spokesman noted (as reported in the Rocky)that:
“I would not pretend to ascribe any motive to any action that group takes. They are so far off the map when it comes to serious fact-based discussion that it is impossible to take them seriously,” Dreyer said, referring to the AAE.
After that he pissed off Senator Salazar, who sits on the Senate Energy and Natural Resource Committee. Said the Senator (in an AP story by Judith Kohler):
“They proclaim themselves to be the kings of the Roan,” Salazar said of the criticism from industry representatives. “The Roan Plateau doesn’t belong to any one king. It belongs to the people of this country, as a land of many uses.”
Ironically, Colorado’s main oil and gas lobby group–the Colorado Oil and Gas Association–has lately been talking about a new day of cooperation with local and state governments. But they might want to reign in old Greg who seems to have strayed a bit off the reservation.

. . . just who is doing the terrorizing:
“The letter expressed “growing dismay” with reguard to statements AAE has made asserting that not drilling the Roan would empower terrorists by pumping more money into foreign energy.”
is that he speaks of foreign energy, but this group pushes for foreign drillers, and even allowing foregn oil companies to own the oil/gas. All in all, this is a lot the US PATRIOT act. Just a front for those that mean us harm.
Let’s see — the Mayor of Aspen, Colorado vs. those suggesting that we develop our resources rather than continuing to send money to terrorist organizations. Wow. Why is this even an issue? Aspen is just pissed that they can no longer maintain their servant class because their servants are moving down valley to work in the oil and gas industry. Sorry, Mick. As you sit at your computer that’s most likely powered by coal or natural gas fired power plants typing letters obstructing those resources’ development — it’s going to happen anyway. Prick.
what electrical power is derived from, and other power as well. Mick has been part of that “servant” class you refer too. He is not trying to keep those people close to the second castle owners. I don’t think there is anyone in Pitkin County who has done more to stand up for Everyman than Mick.
Except the letter to (Golden-based) AAE did not only come from Aspen, but also all those down valley towns to which you refer–Rifle, Parachute, Silt, etc.
Most of our natural gas comes from that terrorist nation to the north, Canada. There is already a 15 year inventory of already-leased drilling sites, most of Roan’s gas is already accessible (industry would have to reduce their mega-profits a bit to get it) without occupying any more public surface, and NONE of the leasing revenues from Roan will come to the state now, not $1 and not $1billion, until the Anvil Pts. site is remediated. Rushing to lease and drill Roan now is good for the oil corporations, and a rip-off for Colorado.
I would have to say sock puppet Bruce Lee’s kung fu, and facts, are weak.
