    1. Hi Car 31, sorry I missed your post in December.  I miss you too! I check in once or twice a month to see headlines, then fade into obscurity again.  As David says below, it is a rough time for R’s.  D’s appear to have all the momentum and I’ve never seen R’s so apathetic.  (That’s a-pathetic with an “A” Sir Robin!) Reading blogs in these times is like an inmate reading employment classifieds.  Futile and frustrating!

  1. I think this would be a more appropriate Open Thread quote:

    “I understand that TABOR was not written by God and given to Moses and come down from the mountain,” May said. “It was written by a guy in Colorado Springs.”

    –Rep. Mike May (R)

  2.      I just got an e-mail from Larry E. Johnson, a hardly perennial in Colorado politics, announcing his candidacy in C.D. 2.

      Looks like Pols will need to revise the Big Line.  (Maybe put him on there at 1,000-1 odds.)

  3. ‘Twas the night before drilling, when all through our state

    Seven Years full of study, but still we must wait;

    The decisions were made with collaboration and care,

    In hopes that a Roan comromise would soon be there;

    Stakeholders signed and headed home to their spouse,

    While visions of Roan Compromise danced as gas heated their house;

    And Billy Ritter in his boxers, and Udall with a snap,

    Asked for 120 Days — and got it just-like-that!

    When out of their review arose lots of clatter,

    about wildlife and streams and other things that matter.

    Away to the computer with a flash I did do, to open my email and read what the hell they would do!

    Tore open my browser and clicked on the the link.

    To read about Ritter’s-Roan-reveleation I could scarsely blink

    Gave the lustre of my laptop I began to read my screen….

    When, what to my wondering eyes I began to read…., HE DIDNT DO A THING!

    But an ACEC reviewd, yes that is Ritter’s only schtick,

    At this point Salazar must be thinking, Alas! “Bill’s a prick!”

    Ken knew in a moment, even before he was told,

    Alas, down the River, Salazar had been sold!

    And Salazar then shouted whith some names to make Bill listen;

    “Now, Sell-out! Loser! Jerk where is your conviction!?!

    With the 120-days gone by now the enviros cry and ball,

    Drill Away! Drill Away! Revenues to All!

    1. When we draft medical powers of attorney, we ask clients to explicitly specify whether or not they want to allow their agent to authorize shock treatment.  Traditional shock treatment destroys memory, so it’s often used to “erase” undesirable behaviors and cognitive patterns (e.g., depression).

      Surprizingly, it’s not uncommon for shock treatment to be used in nursing homes when dealing with depressed, confused older patients.

      The metaphysical question is whether you are or are not the same person after shock treatment and/or whether you can consent to a treatment that destroys part of your being.

    1. How it wasn’t called stalling when the Dems did it.  It was ‘a gallant stand of right vs. wrong…’.

      THis Dem congress is shooting itself in the foot daily. They bet all their money on the wrong horse (defeat in Iraq).  Now what?

      1. the Pubs set a record.  No one says the Dems haven’t stalled bills.  But never to this degree.  In fact, in the last several sessions, I recall that the Pubs threatened “the nuclear option” if the Dems didn’t buckle under, right?

        No, this “glory” is on the shoulders of the Pubs alone.

        1. I think you’re just being partisan.  This omnibus spending bill (I would hope you would admit) is a joke.  Trying to ram it through in 48 hours full of earmarks is not what I call ‘draining the swamp’.

          The Dems have had their share of partisan nonsense in the last year – changing votes after they were taken, Pete Stark’s garbage on the floor of the House…It’s the same garbage, with a different party now.  Speaking of setting records, the approval rating of congress is up to a balmy 13% fro 11%, which is now 1/3 of Bush’s.

          Both sides get the blame for this particular bunch of dumbasses.  The latest Muslim/Christian dueling ass kissing proclamations when only one of 12 spending bills is finished is a good representation of how little any of these folks understands that they are our employees.

          1. …but you are, in typical Repube fashion, are saying “Well, everyone does it.”  No, it’s the Pubs in this Congressional session that has set a record half way through!

      2. I can’t seem to remember…  It’s been so long since the Democratic Party in Congress has had a spine.  Republicans, on the other hand, appear to not only have a spine, but a fused one at that – rigid, unyielding, inflexible.

        We passed an omnibus spending bill because the Republicans failed to do their job last year and because Bush vetoed or threatened to veto most of the spending bills the Democrats PASSED this year.

        The Republican Party: do nothing, block everything, hate anything, and scam anyone.  Sad.

          1. Phoenix, come on.  The Dems didn’t pass any spending bills because they overstepped their support.  They didn’t have the spines (you’re right) to simply try to cut off funding for the war, because they were afraid they might not get elected again.  Bottom line.  Then they loaded spending bills with spending that Bush (who suddenly became frugal with our money, go figure) told them up front that he would veto and the Dems didn’t have the support from even moderate R’s to the point where they could override a veto. They also made almost no changes to a policy scam (that the last crop of R’s abused to high heaven) that allows these idiotic earmarks, some secret, to be padded on to a completely unrelated bill to butter asses back home.

            They were led poorly.  It was unfortunately business as usual, and this:

            The Republican Party: do nothing, block everything, hate anything, and scam anyone.  Sad.

            is something a child would say.  Come follow me around for a day and open your mind – you’ll be embarrassed that you said what you did.  Your demonizing of such a large group of your countrymen is exactly what you’re accusing the R’s of doing.

  4. Some may recall me writing about the trouble I had registering to vote in FL because I didn’t have a FL license yet and despite providing my passport copy.  I had to apply again, took a call from a caring person, and had to fax a copy of my ancient SS card to her.

    Well, seems that the law all about this just got thrown out by a federal judge!  Passed two years ago by our Republican guv and leg’s.

    Shoulda known. Hey, I’m a white guy, not one of those brown skin folks you Pubs are so afraid of. Born in the USA in a Naval hospital.  Reasonably American, I’d say.
