When trying to figure out who I want to support for President, I’ve been caught up recently in the back and forth between Clinton and Obama regarding various insignificant points. I couldn’t quite make up my mind.
One day I’d be leaning towards Clinton. She seems tough. She has already had so much mud thrown out her, it seems like the GOP would have to reach to find anything new that would stick in the general. I’d love to hear the righties screaming if she actually won.
The next, I’d be considering Obama. He seems a little empty on substance…other than being different. I’m not sure what to expect with him. On the other hand, maybe a change…even an unknown change…would be just what our country needs.
I’ve been going back and forth for several months. Then, today, I read an AP article about Edwards entitled “Edwards Cites Fight for Party’s Soul.” In the article, he makes a simple–somewhat cliche point when he says,
“I think if my party, the Democratic Party, if we’re not willing to fight for, stand up and show some backbone on behalf of the poor, the homeless, the disabled, the disenfranchised, we have no soul,” the former North Carolina senator said. “What are we going to stand for?”
It reminded me that months ago, when looking at their policy positions, Edwards was clearly the most progressive. I thought that out of the top three, he represented the best possibility of real change in Washington. A Southern Democrat, he also has a very strong advantage in a general election. Carter, Clinton…Edwards? The mold seems to work.
So now I have come to the conclusion that John Edwards is what the United States needs. Clinton is stuck in the old system. Obama is an unknown and appears to be caving to the old system in an effort to win.
Now, in Iowa, Edwards is within striking distance. I fully understand that he is still the dark horse candidate–but he does have a legitimate shot. In my view, he would be a real catalyst for change. He would show people what Democrats REALLY believe in, and in doing so (instead of catering to the right) he would bolster popular support for the Democratic Party. Finally, and probably most importantly, he could crush the likes of Giuliani, Romney, and Huckabee (as long as he had some people on his staff smart enough to pay for his haircuts with personal funds instead of campaign funds).
Even with the Democratic takeover of Congress, I still feel like the pendulum is on the right. Let’s make John Edwards the next President of the United States and fully bring true balance back to America. The last thing we need is people that will cater to Rush Limbaugh and other extremist right-wingers.

we are going to Iowa on dec 30. you are welcome to join us.
Edwards is going for the vote that will get him nominated, ignoring the people who make this country great.
Yes, we need services for the poor, but not to the exclusion of the people who create jobs and wealth and get the job done.
Edwards talks like a dictator. He will force his Chavez-like reforms down our throats, he says.
He lies. Congress will not go along with his populist reforms anymore than it will accept earmark reforms. Members of Congress are careerists, and they know where their campaign contributors are-on K Street.
Those K-Street lobbyists represent everyone in the country who works and many who don’t, and there is no way a president can or should put them out of business.
Lobbyists keep power-greedy populists like John Edwards from destroying the strongest economy in the world.
Nobody likes everything lobbyists do. Indeed, we despise many of them-those advocating positions we oppose. But nobody likes a divisive president, either.
The Dems have divided Washington and the Country since 2000 because of their fury about Bush’s legitimate election victory. They are responsible for the state of the country, and if they nominate Edwards, they will show that they favor political bitterness over national unity.
Be careful about the poison you choose.
The Dems are responsible for the divide… if you forget that they worked in good faith with W for No Child Left Behind, only to be told to take a hike when no longer needed.
How are those rose colored glasses treating you?
Were you here then? Are you listening?
time and time and time and time and time again, I pay closer attention than you. Did any of these attacks happen before NCLB? Nope, they did not. So lay the blame where it belongs – at the ‘pubs’ feet.
Try to get it right before you post. ‘kay?
Dems chickened out for awhile but were back at it in time for 2002 elections. They haven’t let up ever since.
Tin ears miss all the action. 🙂
I said NCLB. And if I were stabbed in the back like Kennedy was, I’d holler too.
Need to oil your ears?
National Council of Liberal Bloviators?
Can’t you read? It’s No Child Left Behind. It went down before 9/11. It was W’s big agenda item (along with stem cell research) that went down before terrorism defined his whole presidency. It’s the issue where he asked for Democratic cooperation at a time when he didn’t necessarily need it if he was able to mobilize the whole of the GOP behind him. Ted Kennedy was a huge reason why it became law, for better or for worse. And Bush was already ignoring the Dems and governing like he had a mandate once he got that through Congress, before 9/11. It’s what I referenced in this very debate.
BTW, it took you two days to come up with that comeback? Good thing you’re not writing for Jimmy Kimmel.
NCLB is not a big issue for me, and I don’t check posts here every day.
I guess you have to be a conservative to recall the bitterness of the Dems from the day Bush was sworn in. Sure, some legislation got passed, but that doesn’t make up for the Dem’s irrational bitterness, which made anti-Clintonism look like friendly banter.
to be so far off the mark about the facts and sequence of events. But I imagine that more credible cons than you would just admit they’re wrong instead of carrying on like you do. But then again so much of what you post is so factually incorrect that it doesn’t matter if you keep claiming to be right.
Too bad no one is writing for Jimmy Kimmel 🙂
BTW, I just checked this thread again… I thought GOPundit’s comment was pretty funny
I never really liked Kimmel much, except when he was on Win Ben Stein’s Money.
I don’t see any comment from GOPundit on this thread…
You’re right, there’s not. I meant “Another Skeptic”
I think I need to go to bed.
you made the argument that the gridlock in Washington is essentially the Dems’ fault since 9/11. Between this and the take-no-prisoners attitude demonstrated by the GOP since the 80’s, I’d say quite the opposite. There’s only so much shit you can expect the Dems to eat before they say “enough!” You’re essentially arguing that they should eat more.
Now the hypocrits hate it. I’ve always loved it.
And the poor ‘pubs boo hooed when the shoe was on their foot.
IOKIYAR. (Google that if you don’t know what it means.)
This must be a joke or some kind of spam blast. Edwards has a clear shot to come out the front runner. Let’s hope so.
I’m assuming you will be there for more than three days, and I can’t get out of work. Good luck though. I sent my money the other day and I hope it helps some.
IOWA FIRST LADY MARI CULVER ENDORSES JOHN EDWARDS FOR PRESIDENT
Endorsement Builds on Edwards’ Growing Momentum in Iowa
Des Moines, Iowa – On the last day of his “Main Street Express” bus tour and following a widely praised debate performance, today Senator John Edwards will receive the endorsement of Iowa First Lady Mari Culver. Culver believes Edwards’ lifetime of fighting for those without a voice makes him the best candidate to stand up for America’s families and bring change to America. Culver’s endorsement adds to Edwards’ growing momentum in the final weeks before the Iowa caucuses. Edwards recently was endorsed by Congressman Bruce Braley and continues to gain support from community leaders and undecided caucus goers.
“With all the challenges facing our country, we need a leader who will fight for our families,” said Culver. “I am proud to endorse John Edwards for President. John has spent his career standing up for children and families in their hour of need. I admire his commitment to speaking out for those who have no voice and look forward to working with him to make sure children here in Iowa and across the country are safe and secure and have the opportunity to realize their dreams.”
“I am honored to have Mari’s support,” said Edwards. “She has been a passionate advocate on behalf of families and children in crises. Her commitment to helping the less fortunate is exactly the kind of the leadership America so desperately needs. With Mari’s help and the help of the people of Iowa, we can build the One America we believe in.”
Culver’s support adds to Edwards’ strength in Iowa. He has strong grassroots organizations in all 99 Iowa counties. He also enjoys the support of Caucus for Priorities, which represents 10,000 Iowa caucus goers. Edwards has the support of numerous labor groups who are actively working to put him in the White House. He has been endorsed by the Iowa State Council of the SEIU and 11 other SEIU state councils representing more than a million SEIU members. Additionally, he has been endorsed by the Iowa Postal Workers Union, the United Steelworkers, the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, the Transport Workers Union of America, the United Mine Workers of America and the UNITE HERE Chicago and Midwest Regional Joint Board.
Culver will join Edwards today at his “Main Street Express” bus tour finale events in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Davenport. During the eight-day tour, Edwards has been highlighting his plans to fight for regular families like the ones he grew up with in his small, rural hometown.
