“Hitler and Joseph Goebbels understood that if you say something loud and long enough many people will believe it. A good journalist’s first priority should be to separate propaganda from fact–but sometimes it’s very hard to do that.”

  1. They had a segment about the high-powered Christmas parties the lobbyists put on in Washington.  Guess who the one Congressman was they tried to interview?

Yup, our very own Doug Lamborn.  Caught him sneaking into a party held by the beer industry lobbyists.  Did the old “no comment” routine and then ran for the bar.

Doug Lamborn at a beer party?

          1. I remember moving to CO in 1972 and partaking in the Great Coors Mystique.  I even loaded up some cases when we visited FL in a year or two.

Then, one day I was sipping a Coors, I looked at the can, and said to myself, “You know, I don’t really like this.”

In American generic beers I prefer MGD.  Just a bit more flavor than the others.

            1. of the Red Green Show here.  Anyone else remember this from the “Possum Lodge Word Game”? (Hint, the word Red is looking for is “water”)

Red:  You need this to survive.

              Ranger Gord: Beer.

Red:  No, this is tasteless and colorless.

              Ranger Gord:  Oh! American Beer.

              🙂

            1. It alleges to be an actual Confucius quote. Apropos for CoPols, and the topic at hand.

I think what Confucius is saying is that beer may lead to a loss of control and a feeling of being drunk with power, whereas an oppressive government is dangerously out of control and drunk with power.

              Other interpretations are welcome.

                1. Could be they had some extreme, rip-your-guts-out beer, back in the time of Confucius, that was scarier than tigers.

Because they certainly did have beer in Confucius’ day:

“A curious fact that further reveals the global and cultural ties to man’s beer brewing history is that the ancient Chinese, well before Confucius (551 479 BC) was born, brewed a type of beer using millet. Sacred books reveal that beer played an important role in Chinese religious rituals.”

  2. It was just about as boring as the Repub debate yesterday…that format basically sucked…

But what is strange to me is the length of time between this final debate and the date of the caucuses.  In 04 the Black and Brown Debate (the last debate then) was 9 or 10 days before the caucuses as I recall.

Of course as I write this, it dawns on me that 9 days before this cycles’ caucus would fall on Christmas…  Nevermind…

    1. But I was struck by the similarity between the candidates without Special K and Uncle Grumpy there.

Obama sounded great, Edwards sounded even better–Hilary is collapsing.  She doesn’t know how to be behind.

Saw Penn, Trippi and Axelrod on MSNBC today.  It is clear that the Shaheen smear was orchestrated at the highest level of the Clinton campaign.

      1. and they did sound similar w/o “Special K and Uncle Grumpy there.”  Lol!

And on an entirely personal note, Trippi and Axelrod just piss me off.  I will NEVER forget standing outside the Edwards campaign HQ in Des Moines almost 4 years ago today, when Axelrod, who we had pretty much never seen in Iowa, asked me if there was a Starbucks around.  I said yes of course, it was just down the street.  He then proceeded to reach in his pocket, hand me a five, and request a Venti something-or-other.  Let’s just say that I was less than willing to walk the 3 or 4 blocks for Axelrod’s coffee in the oh-so-nice 8* Iowa weather…
