Iraq: Colorado's #1 Tourist Destination?

  • by: Colorado Pols

As the Denver Post reports:

Gov. Bill Ritter, spending a week in the Middle East on a surprise visit to National Guard troops, described a “glimmer of hope” in the improved stability of the Iraqi military and police force.

“People are comfortable that both of those are moving in the right direction,” Ritter said in a media conference call this morning.

More questionable, the governor said, is whether political stability is improving in the war-torn country.

Ritter traveled to Kuwait and Iraq with two other governors through the Department of Defense, first meeting with Pentagon chief Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Washington, D.C., on Monday.

As commander in chief of the Colorado National Guard, Ritter said he wanted to find out firsthand how Guard members were handling deployment.

“They are under my command essentially,” said Ritter, who doesn’t have a military background. “It is extremely helpful to me to see this on the ground.”

Ritter made no call for bringing Colorado Guard members home sooner.

Hey, it’s another Democrat for the hard left to burn in effigy! Just the next in a bunch of cowardly sellouts perpetuating Bush’s Big Lie? A poll follows.

If we replaced "Ritter" or "Perlmutter" with the name "Salazar," would you turn on them over their recent Iraq comments?

  1. Polis, Perlmutter, Ritter…  I’m all for helping the Iraqi economy and everything, but it is really ready for all this tourism?

And I hate to break it to Ritter, but while the National Guard are deployed as Army troops, they’re not under his command – the Decider-in-Chief ruins their lives once they’re Federalized.

  2. I applaud all those that go, it’s simply just that important. Ritter might not over see those guards right now, but if it help morale of CO guards, its worth it.
