Shafroth to petition on to ballot

Will Shafroth, a Democratic candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, announced today that he will petition his way on to August’s Democratic primary ballot.

The executive director of the Colorado Conservation Trust said he would forgo the caucus process in favor of spending the next several months knocking on the doors of as many voters as possible.

Shafroth will need 1,000 valid signatures from registered voters in the district in order to get his name on the ballot for the Aug. 12 Democratic primary.

Candidates going through the caucus process must get at least 30 percent of party delegates to vote for them in the district assembly next year.

Shafroth’s campaign manager, Lynea Hansen, said petitioning can’t begin until March 31 and must be completed by May 22.

Shafroth is running against former Colorado State Board of Education Chairman Jared Polis and former Colorado State Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald, both Democrats, and Web entrepreneur Bill Hammons of the Unity Party.

The candidates are seeking to replace Rep. Mark Udall, D-Eldorado Springs, who is running for U.S. Senate.

  1. He announced his enviro plan and probably did not get the response he hoped for. His biggest issue barely made the press, or did it even?

Now he is announcing that bc he oviously cant make caucus threshold he has to petition. Not a terrible thing, but since he hasn’t spent any money he doesn’t have a solid field/voter outreach plan.  This was bound to happen.
