From Michael Hancock:
Hancock to Accept Webb Sneakers and Kick Off the We are all Denver Neighborhood Tour
Mayoral candidate Michael Hancock will host a rally Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at Crescent Park in Lowry to launch his We are all Denver neighborhood tour – visiting every neighborhood in Denver to encourage voters to cast their ballots.
“For months we’ve been talking to Denver residents who want a mayor with my experience and dedication to bring goods jobs and better schools to every neighborhood,” Michael said. “Now, it’s time to elect a leader tested and ready to make the tough decisions and continue Denver on its path to greatness.”
To kick off the 17-day tour, former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb will pass his coveted sneakers to Michael and launch a citywide “Get Out The Vote” canvass.
Now obviously this is a symbolic gesture. It’s a good one, too: Hancock would be smart to draw as many comparisons to popular former Mayor Wellington Webb as possible.
We really hope it’s just a symbolic gesture, though. Webb really wore the tread of those shoes down and we can’t imagine Hancock could wear them comfortably. Hell, we don’t even know if they’d fit Hancock (although if they did, just imagine the power of the implication). That’s not even to mention the smell. There’s years and years of hard-working Mayoral stink built up inside.

It would be a freak of nature. Webb is about 2 feet taller than Hancock, who can probably wear one of Webb’s sneakers on both his feet.
This is no different than Romer riding a bus to work. Who pays attention to this stuff other than Denver Pols readers?
But that’s really more a function on the milquetoast nature of this race thus far, if anything.
Anyway, we love getting these press releases. We actually have a bet on what we get next.
“Carol Boigon had Soy milk with her cereal this morning.”
“James Mejia walks his dogs.”
“Jeff Peckman Announces Mayoral Bid.”
