We just received a press release from City Council at-large candidate Debbie Ortega, touting an endorsement from the United Mine Workers of America.
The United Mine Workers of America Region 4 have endorsed At-Large City Council candidate Debbie Ortega. “The UMWA experience in the past, having Debbie Ortega represent our workers on the Denver City Council, is that Debbie has been a proven fighter for working families,” Region 4 Director Robert Butero said, “and it’s our honor to endorse her again, and we look forward to working with her on the Denver City Council in the future.”
We certainly don’t think that this endorsement will have any impact on the race, unless the national office can get members to send some money Debbie’s way (there’s not exactly a big issue with mining in the City of Denver). That said, it’s certainly a nice gesture and has great personal meaning to Ortega because of her family’s involvement in the mine industry.
