JCAR Endorses Fifer

  • by: Colorado Pols

The Jefferson County Association of Realtors, known affectionately as JCAR to those around the county, has a pretty good track record of endorsing candidates who end up winning.

We wouldn’t say that JCAR-endorsed candidates win because of JCAR, but we will say that the county realtors’ association generally picks right because it’s interested in the candidates who will work to raise property values if elected. Those same candidates generally run the best campaigns and are able to fundraise and connect with voters enough to win. They also tend to do a pretty good job once in office.

That’s why cell-phone consigliere Bob Fifer must be pretty thrilled to have received this endorsement. From the Bob Fifer for Arvada campaign:

ARVADA, Colo. (Oct. 3, 2011) – The Jefferson County Association of Realtors has chosen to endorse Bob Fifer, a network engineer for CenturyLink, in the race for Arvada City Council. The endorsement injects an additional $500 into the Fifer campaign.

“From the campaign’s beginning, I have tried to convey the message that Arvada has long been a terrific place to work and raise a family, and we just need an injection of creative ideas to keep the city pointed in the right direction,” Fifer said. “I think the endorsement from JCAR is further evidence that my message is getting through.”

Fifer has pledged to bolster Arvada’s spirit of volunteerism and make it a city where small businesses can thrive. In support of his campaign, he has received donations from 72 different individuals.

“Bob’s focus on the quality of life in our community, forming partnerships and engaging residents in their community, earned Bob our support,” said Justin Knoll, JCAR’s chairman of the board.

This endorsement really matters for Fifer. His opponent Ed Tomlinson is a realtor and a member of the Jefferson County Association of Realtors. Tomlinson would also be the first to tell you that he’s been in real estate since the 70s. In fact, we’re a little taken aback when Tomlinson talks about anything other than real estate. He previously served as director of the Jefferson County Housing Authority and in leadership positions at JCAR.

We’re pretty sure this endorsement really smarts for the self-proclaimed (yes, really) “Mr. Real Estate.” If anything, it indicates that Tomlinson isn’t the establishment candidate he thought he was. You’ve got to admit, it does look really bad. JCAR endorsed the opponent of one of its most active members. It endorsed the opponent of the guy who thinks of himself as Arvada and Jefferson County’s real estate expert. It’s almost like JCAR’s way of saying “that’s enough, Ed.”

No matter how you look at it, we bet Bob Fifer is pretty happy about his chances right about now. If JCAR endorsed Tomlinson, Fifer could’ve shrugged it off as an inevitable. With their endorsement, however, Fifer can begin to position himself as the frontrunner.
