Health Care Reform...And Blog Maintenance (How About That For a Non-Sequitur!)

In health care news today, the Wall Street Journal has an interesting writeup of Holland’s newly reformed national health care plan. Some of the changes sound pretty innovative, others sound potentially rife with problems. But it’s definitely interesting.

More locally, the Grand Junction Sentinel reports that some legislators are starting to say we may not get health care reform in Colorado in 2008, despite a statewide health care commission getting ready to release its recommendations.

Oh, and some personal housekeeping: As I mentioned over at the Denver Post’s site, posting is going to be light for me over the next few weeks, because I am on book deadline and because I am launching the Creators Syndicate column (it starts next week). I won’t be doing my occasional posts over at the Post’s site, primarily because fending off libel from the Post’s irrelevant right-wing mouthpiece on a day-to-day basis (yes, he still claims that I made up Aurora City Councilman Ryan Frazier’s Republican affiliation – I kid you not). It is just a bit too labor intensive to do a) for free and b) while I’m on book deadline (but rest assured, I’ll get back to that in October when the book is done).

That said, I will still be maintaining daily operations over at Working Assets – and will still do some stuff over here when I can.

Onward!

  1. And of course it’s Senator Josh Penry who is against implementing ANY good public policy that has a price tag. He might just the most spineless legislator in the General Assembly.

“State Sen. Josh Penry, R-Fruita, said he expects lawmakers will need several months to analyze the commission’s final recommendation, its costs and its policy implications.

Penry said that if the commission’s fifth and final reform plan, slated for release later this year, is as expensive as the other four plans, as determined by a Virginia-based consulting firm, a 2008 rollout could be fiscally impossible.

“All of the proposals I’ve seen so far are a stretch on reality because of the massive fiscal consequences,” he said.”

He’s willing to fight for Oil & Gas companies, but is ready to throw the uninsured under the bus.
