The Denver Post's Allison Sherry reported moments ago:
Colorado’s Republican Attorney General John Suthers signed onto a brief that urges the Supreme Court to uphold California’s Proposition 8, which bans gay marriage.
Reports Sherry, Attorney General John Suthers claims to be taking this action in defense of Colorado's Amendment 43, passed in 2006 amending our state's constitution to define marriage as "between one man and one woman." Since the passage of Amendment 43 nearly seven years ago, public opinion in this state (and the party affiliation of the state's chief executive) have shifted solidly in support of equality for gays and lesbians. Just last week, Gov. John Hickenlooper signed the Colorado Civil Union Act into law in an historic ceremony at the History Colorado Center.
But today, John Suthers' discordant act against the same equality most of the state is celebrating? To say it stands out in ugly relief, a mark against him any time this man ever aspires to higher office, is an understatement.

At best Suthers is pissing in to the wind on his SCOTUS brief signature. SCOTUS may dismiss the Prop. 8 case from its courtroom, leaving the 9th Circuit ruling in place. Or it could dismiss the 9th Circuit appeal, leaving the District Court ruling intact. Or I suppose the liberals on the Court could convince someone to sign on to an actual decision, potentially broadening the impact of the case to include Colorado. But the chances of the Court ruling to uphold Prop. 8 are somewhere between slim and none based on reports from today's arguments.
Yeah, when you're a piece of shit hater who can't stand that haters are no longer in the majority in Colorado, you piss in the wind as needed.
Perhaps Suthers is just standing up for a shrinking minority — Republicans.
Is anyone really surprised by this? The only surprising element is that it took him so long to sign it….
Meet the 131 Republicans who are urging the Supreme Court to overturn a ban on same-sex marriage
In a friend of the court brief, the Republicans argued that gay marriage promotes conservative values of strong family and limited government.

Sadly, Suthers and too many other Republicans are happy to be wrong.
Not just wrong, Suthers is fight against the direction is own state is moving. He is completely out of touch.
And I hope he runs for Senate!
It does show one thing. Suthers is clearly not planning on running for office in the future. (He is smart enough to read the polls.)
That doesn't hurt my feelings in the slightest, DavidThi. Maybe he's lining up his next gig. I'll bet Focus on the Family will take him.
