While new studies continue to show that increased media consolidation leads to decreased diversity in media (particularly ownership of stations by minorities and women), federal regulators do not seem too concerned.
FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, has expressed support for eliminating current rules that prohibit newspaper-broadcast cross-ownership, and that set local ownership caps that limit a single company from owning more than one television station in most markets. Although these efforts have been strongly criticized by the public, we are all witnessing the expansion of the media as a consolidated industry that will become harder to penetrate unless we continue to fight for media reform. Today, six corporations control most of what you hear, see and read. And since 1975, two-thirds of all independently-owned newspaper have disappeared.
Learn more and participate in this debate on June 29 when Common Cause and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights co-host a national town hall meeting on “Why Media Diversity Matters.” There will be live events in Washington, DC and Denver, CO, and the meeting will be webcast for the rest of the country. RSVP today.

We’ve all witnessed the obvious and sickening right-wing slant of Fox News in comparison with CNN. We’ve all witnessed the right wing exerting it’s power over CBS and Dan Rather. When the competition among networks, radio, newspaper, and journalism ends in this country we will be witnessing a form of natzi-ism all over again. Control over the media and even the demographics of our citizenry through immigration measures are all designed to achieve domination over the masses. As one of our pol’s writers recently commented, we may evntually all have to get our news from New Zealand.
They are as far left as they dare.
Are they included in this witch hunt?
What about 760AM? Bye bye too?
Fair is fair.
Are you nuts? Littwin doesn’t make the whole paper.
Every other story is a liberal human interest story trying to show how the local, state, and federal government is not doing enough to help the immigrants, gays, minorities, schools, etc.
They ignore anything news worthy.
Deny that.
You measure a newspaper by it’s editorial page. You measure a paper’s readership by the rest of the content.
newspaper by the slant they put on the news. Not just the editorial page.
You blew aside what I said before about the RMN. Their only real news stories are little articles way in the back pages.
Just look at ANY front page of the RMN. Every one is a human interest story. Not a news story. That should tell you right there, unless you are in denial, that they are a far left newspaper.
Then all one has to do is READ the paper to discover that it is in fact, a liberal lefty rag.
Compare the Gazette to the RMN. The front page of most every Gazette issue has a real news story on it.
Look at the RMN and you will see how horribly we are treating the immigrants.
Still in denial?
First off, you telling anyone that they’re in denial is the very picture of such a person. And someone of your belief system is quite unable to accurately detect slant. You’ve proven that by this post and hundreds of others.
Human interest stories, fluff that they are, are what the public want. It’s probably why Denver remains a two newspaper town.
I’m in no position to compare the Gazette since they don’t sell it up here, but I’m sure they’re as right wing as Batista was which will make you happy. Being to the left of that does not a “far far left” paper make.
which to form an opinion/ Other than to just say “I think so”.
Maybe that is why Denver has two newspapers?………both are far left. At least I read them all, including the Gazette, and can give an informed opinion, unlike you.
Well you put my in my place didn’t you. It’s simple – you’re too far right to be objective. I read the news and the post and I know that the news is conservative. That’s because I know how to read objectively, just like I can carry on a real discussion here while you’re capable only of throwing bombs.
But if it soothes your wingnut soul to think that the RMN is far far left because they endorsed Ritter, that’s your business.
is conservative, then you my liberal friend are WAY left.
Explain all the articles I told you about. How can you sit there with a straight face and say the Post and RMN are conservative, especially if you actually read them?
Maybe compared to a Boulder rag they are middle of the road, but in the real world, they are left, far left.
then link the articles in question and show me the liberal bias. You won’t make a credible case but go ahead and knock yourself out.
BTW I didn’t say the Post was conservative, just the News. And I didn’t say wingnut Faux news conservative either, although I bet that’s about as left as you can stand it.
Since you have not come back in 24 hours to make your case I’ll take that as a concession of the argument. You can still feel that the News is liberal but don’t come around with that load unless you’ve got a case.
As our foreign policy in the Middle East, current amnesty agenda at home, and foreign trade deficit policies demonstrate; conservatism is insanity from which we as a nation may never recover.
Not news, right?
Vincent Carroll, left winger, right?
Is Attila on your left, per chance?
..and revealed that uber-conservatives don’t care about human interest stories, ergo, humans. Jig’s up!
So, what IS a good middle of the road paper? Pravda?
Sorry we Big City Guys can’t readily get the Gazette up here in order to make a comparison, not that I have time for more than one paper a day, anyway.
LAIS, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. However, don’t even pretend that you are MOTR or center-right. Just look at your handle and all your screeds and your insults to me in the past. You are FAR FAR right compared to most of the population, and if that gives you red tinted lenses, accept it.
Have you had a mental health check lately?
