What is the “Ratterree letter”? It’s the one from 1998. The one falsely accusing Lamborn’s Republican opponent, Tom Ratterree, of taking his dying wife off life support. The same one Jay Fawcett was asking about. And Republicans too.
“Lamborn said there never was such a letter: ‘That would be a very mean thing to say.'” ( “Ruby-red voters flirt with the blues”, The Denver Post, October 29, 2006. http://www.denverpos…) If Lamborn was lying to the Post’s reporter, Erin Emery, i.e., if there actually were such a letter, what is the press, and what are we to believe from Doug Lamborn and his supporters now or in the future?
Before you answer, here is an inconvenient report on the contest between Republicans Tom Ratterree and Doug Lamborn from the May 10, 1998 Gazette, in an article titled, “Supporters of GOP Senate rivals sling mud.” (http://nl.newsbank.c…
“The primary election is three months away, and already the battle for the Republican nomination in state Senate District 9 is turning ugly. Nasty allegations are swirling around Sen. Doug Lamborn . . . . Ratterree has received copies of hate mail being circulated against him by Lamborn supporters. The letters surfaced a couple of weeks ago and became public at the Republican Party’s El Paso County Assembly on May 2. One of the letters suggests that Ratterree, who opposes euthanasia, violated his own moral code by taking his wife off life support.”
The Gazette then goes on to accurately report further that not only was Ratterree’s wife, at her request, NEVER placed on life support, but that he was also with his wife at her death bed.
There is more damning information about Doug Lamborn in this article that is reserved for the future. (As some of you obviously have been doing with the links to newspaper articles, you should go to the library and read the full article for yourselves, or, as others have been doing, buy an online copy. Learn more about our Congressman, Doug Lamborn. You should. The more you learn, the less you’ll want to retain him in 2008.)

For those who have not joined Coloradopols and cannot see the tally, it’s 9 votes to believe the Gazette. ZERO votes to believe Lamborn.
