You appear to have this all wrapped up in a neat little package.

  1. The Washington Post has a story today that Multiple Choice Mitt is now criticizing our Commander in Chief for his handling of Iraq!  Isn’t Mitt giving aid and comfort to our enemies by doing this?

  2. There was a posting or two on this issue, including the recent PBS special focusing on Colorado.

Don and Lisl Auman will be on the west steps of the capitol tomorrow, Sunday to bring attention to this issue.  Bill JOhnson’s story about his mission in in the News, P. 46.  Don’t know what time, trying to find out.

Full Disclosure:  I worked closely with the Auman family from the sentencing on to get Lisl out of prison.

          1. But like the founders of MADD, sometimes a person has an experience that awakens them to something larger.  That’s what has happened to Don, her father.

      1. He pretty much is responsible for the nation to know what happened.  But it was the appeals system that sprung her.  What Thompson did was raise awareness of the absurdity of the “felony murder” laws and keep the support coming to the Auman family.

I was on the capitol steps in May 2001 for the Auman rally, waiting for it to start.  I looked around, and there was “Duke” of Doonesbury.  Man, he had HST pegged, cigarette holder and all.

The Auman family was invited to his, er, rather unusual departure.

  3. Okay, this is Open Line Friday, so I’m going to post this weird story, entitled Accused Chiropractor Released, from Wise County, Texas.  As you read this story, ask yourself, “Was there a victim in this alleged crime?” Was this consensual? Something is not adding up!
    – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

A Bridgeport [TX] chiropractor accused of having sex with a patient has been released from jail after having his bail reduced by the district attorney’s office.

      . . .

Chames was arrested last Thursday, April 12, for sexual assault following an investigation by Bridgeport police.

A copy of the arrest affidavit was sent to the Wise County Messenger . . . According to the affidavit, Kriger received a statement from a 40-year-old female who said she began using the chiropractic services of Chames on Feb. 28. The victim said she was experiencing improvement by March 5 but was told by Chames that “he would not release her back to work until she could raise her legs up while lying on her back,” according to the affidavit.

The victim went on to say that Chames told her she would have to disrobe for the treatment. When he had her positioned for treatment for her back, that was when Chames had sexual intercourse with her, according to the affidavit.

“Dr. Chames informed her there would be no charge for this session,” the affidavit stated.

The following day, the victim said she returned for treatment and Chames apologized for what had happened “and then repeatedly asked her if she liked it,” the affidavit stated.

The victim said she was treated a few more times by Chames with no sexual activity. When the victim asked again for a work release, she was told to come in for another treatment. When she arrived for the treatment, she said the female receptionist was not in the office.

The affidavit states that the victim was once again instructed to undress and Chames began to massage her. Chames once again had sexual intercourse with her, the victim told police, without her permission.

      . . .

A search of Chames’ office was conducted April 10, and Kriger said she did find evidence of Chames having sexual intercourse with a client in his office, according to the affidavit.

      1. Humor aside, I’m not sure what law has been broken.  Yes, he should lose his license because of the patient-doctor relationship breach.  She did not resist, did not complain to others after the first time.  I presume she is a grown woman of normal intelligence.  She should know that men will say ANYTHING to have sex.  A willing accomplice if there ever was.

      2. and as sharp as a tack! IMHO this “story” is not about the male. This unidentified female comes out swinging with an outrageous claim. Parsing, I don’t think he breached, I think she did. Charging aside, he should sue her!

        1. Yeah, he should.  “I turned around and there she was, naked and ready.  She knew my assistant wasn’t in the office. What was I to do?  I’m only a man.”

  4. Just posted on our News page (http://www.knowyourc…):

May 11, 2007 – Edward Nottingham Replacing Chief Judge Babcock on the U.S. District Court, District of Colorado – KnowYourCOURTS.com  exclusive – KnowYourCOURTS.com has learned, after placing a telephone call today to the HR department and Chief Judge’s clerk within the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, that Chief Judge Lewis T.  Babcock will be stepping down effective June 7, 2007 and District Judge Edward Nottingham will be taking his place as Chief Judge. KnowYourCOURTS.com editorial comment: Check out the http://www.theRobingRoom.com for information about Judge Nottingham.  You will also find some cases on KnowYourCOURTS.com regarding the same.

    1. …and you’ll be pleased (maybe) to know that I think Nottingham is a bit nuts sometimes.  He can be way too arrogant and imperious.

      1. I thought I had a News scoop!!  Someone logged into the Web site from a search engine with keyword criteria federal judge vacancy Babcock.  So, of course, I called the court.  Given Nottingham’s reputation in the Tenth Circuit, my heart sank when I heard that he was replacing him.

        1. The chief judge is chosen by some formula that takes into account the seniority and age of the judge (and maybe other factors).  At least, that’s how the chief judge of the 10th Circuit is chosen.  So I believe Nottingham’s ascension was rather automatic.  Nobody picked him, although he could’ve declined.

            1. I’ve not taken a vow of poverty.  Plus, if the constitution gets changed, any person whom I ruled against could turn around and sue ME personally.  Not that putting my personal well-being on the line could affect my impartiality in the case, but I need a house and whatnot!

Thanks for the tip, though.  🙂

              1. and apparent lack of moral bearings, I have no doubt that you would not last very long under the JAA.  After all, the pay is comparatively lousy; what good is being a judge when you can’t take the occasional bribe and/or get a nubile female DA to service you?

  5. Dear Abby,

I am a crack dealer in Beaumont , Texas who has recently been diagnosed as a carrier of HIV virus.  My parents live in Fort Worth and one of my sisters, who lives in Pflugerville, is married to a transvestite.  My father and mother have recently been arrested for growing and selling marijuana. They are financially dependent on my other two sisters, who are prostitutes in Dallas .

I have two brothers, one is currently serving a  life sentence at Huntsville for the murder of a teenage boy in 1994. My other brother is currently in jail awaiting charges of sexual misconduct with his three children.

I have recently become engaged to marry a former prostitute who lives in Longview , She is a part time “working girl”.

All things considered, my problem is this. I love my fiancГ© and look forward to  bringing her into the family. I certainly want to be totally open and honest with her.

Should I tell her about my cousin who supports Hillary Clinton for President?

    Signed,
    Worried About My Reputation

    1. Dear Worried About My Reputation

I am so sorry for the tardy response, but being dead, my word processor is now a Ouiji board which, understandably, is a bit on the slow side.

I am glad to hear that you and your family are gainfully employed.

Before revealing your cousin’s secret, I suggest that you get a DNA test to confirm that your fiancee is not your cousin.

      Regards,

      Abby

    2. Best thing to do is lie. How could anyone say with a straight face that they support or have a close relative that supports Mrs. Bill Clinton for President!?
