21st Century Education

  • by: Great Ed

Dan Lere is superintendent of Pueblo County School District 70.  This weekend he published an editorial about adapting our schools to face the challenges of the 21st Century.

From the Chieftain:

We have many dedicated teachers and other staff members who work hard to make sure that their students are successful. Unfortunately, they are hampered by a system that tends to put the teacher, students and parents in a box of conventional thinking.

We should be preparing students for the 21st century. In this country we are using a model that has worked well for preparing students for the 20th century.

As he describes in this testimonial.  Funding challenges have forced kids to deal with textbooks that barely keep up with the 20th century.

What do you think?  What are some of the ways we can adapt our schools to meet the challenges of the 21st Century?

  1. The answer to that question covers everything from teacher pay structure and the roll of unions in schools to the way teachers teach and what they teach.  Where to start?
