Democrat Bill Ritter announced some good endorsements over the weekend from several Democratic legislators (though announcing a big round of endorsements on a Sunday is an odd decision).
The legislators backing Ritter include Alice Borodkin, Terrance Carroll, Cheri Jahn and John Soper and Senators Paula Sandoval and Jennifer Veiga.

State Lawmakers Rally Behind Bill Ritter For Governor
With the Colorado General Assembly set to begin its first full week of the 2006 legislative session, state lawmakers are throwing their support behind leading Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill Ritter.
House Speaker Andrew Romanoff is among the legislators endorsing Ritters campaign. Bill Ritter would be a terrific governor, Romanoff said. Hes ethical and innovative. We need a strong leader like him in the governors office.
Joining Romanoff in their backing of former Denver District Attorney Ritter are Representatives Alice Borodkin, Terrance Carroll, Cheri Jahn and John Soper and Senators Paula Sandoval and Jennifer Veiga.
Im deeply impressed with Bills commitment to community, Veiga said. Hes focused on creating a brighter future for Colorado children and Colorado families. Ill do everything I can to ensure that starting in January 2007 were working together at the Capitol.
A coalition of former state lawmakers also is lending key support to Ritter. These include Polly Baca, Nolbert Chavez, Mike Feeley, Ray Kogovsek, Stan Matsunaka, Gil Romero, Paul Sandoval and Wellington Webb.
Leadership is what Bill Ritter is all about, said Ray Kogovsek of Pueblo, who served 10 years in the state legislature and 10 years in Congress. Hes thoughtful, hes compassionate and hes articulate. Theres a tired old phrase either lead or get out of the way. Bill Ritter is the kind of leader well never have to ask to get out of the way.
After serving in the state legislature, Webb served as mayor of Denver while Ritter was the district attorney. I worked closely with Bill and I know his strengths, Webb said. I believe those strengths would make him an outstanding governor for the state of Colorado.
I spent more than two decades as a prosecutor protecting people, punishing criminals and advocating for victims, Ritter said. I also have spent many long hours working with lawmakers to craft sensible legislation. I have great respect for the work our representatives and senators do. I am honored and privileged to have earned their support.

Hick now should support ritter. The last thing you want right now is to split the party.
Every time there is a primary there is a threat that we will “split” the party. This simply doesn’t happens. We are Democrats, not Republicans, and we can have primaries to pick our best without self-destructing.
Even in 2004 when the leadership of the party chose sides in the US Senate race and the candidate they sided against was treated rather unfairly, we came out that election with control of the legislature and one more conressional seat. We corrected what problem there was by changing the leadership.
As long as the party leadership follows thru on their promise of neutrality, we can have very constructive primaries.
From a media point of view I think it best that there be a Dem primary for Gov. If not, the GOP will get all of the media attention during the months leading up to the primary and the Dem candidate will be rarely mentioned until after all the free publicity for the GOP.

ROFL… thanks, I needed the laugh.
?Leadership is what Bill Ritter is all about,? said Ray Kogovsek of Pueblo, who served 10 years in the state legislature and 10 years in Congress. ?He?s thoughtful, he?s compassionate and he?s articulate. ……………
On the other hand, if Mr. Hickenlooper enters the race (as some here are predicting), will Mr. Ritter then be asked to ‘get out of the way’ ?
I wish what Dan said was true. But it reminds me of that old Mo Udall joke. How do you recoginze a Democratic firing squad: They line up in a circle.
While maybe not total self-destruction, I would point to the Salazar/Miles rift as an example.

No but you are pitting some of the stars of the party ( IE Jennifer Veiga VS Salazar) It will just cause infighting once it is over. Well you supported Ritter and not me… Sorry your bill will sit on my desk for awhile
Wow –Ritter got his first REPUBLICAN endorsement with Paula Sandoval’s support. Good for him; he is already showing that he has crossover appeal.

ritter has no clue south of hampden or west of sheridan–and besides–my wife doesn’t like him
Is it right that Ritter is moving into Sen. Salazar’s old campaign office? Doesn’t he know that Salazar is pushing Hick to run?
Ritter moved into Salazar’s old office last week. Im not sure that it matters, but that will be one huge wast of a quality campaign HQ once Hick jumps in the race. 😛
