Unethical Homebuilders?

  • by: Go Blue

I would have never believed that the Homebuilders and their lobbyist were unethical.
http://www.rockymoun…

House Minority Leader May and Representative David Balmer tried to bail them out once before when they were “strong-arming” another Republican House member,http://www.coloradop… but now it looks like reckless campaigning by the Homebuilders goes to far.

“Borodkin said in her complaint that the calls were made to senior citizens in her district, “a very vulnerable segment of my community.” She said the calls stopped after she called Mutch and threatened to file a lawsuit and turn over information to Attorney General John Suthers.

“While this practice of hardball politics seems to be a lobbying tactic, I find the practice of lying to my constituents completely unethical and therefore am filing this complaint,” Borodkin wrote.”

Will the complaint stick? And how do the Homebuilders expect to work with a Democratic controlled legislature and Governor with tactics like this?

With the most recent EMAILS from the Homebuilders showing their hyporcrisy in print, it’s going to be hard for the Republicans in the House and Senate to keep supporting their unethical ways.

  1. As a long-time advocate of major tort reforms, I hate to see legislation that will enrich trial lawyers at the expense of home buyers enacted.

But I also hate to see builders screwing home buyers, which is what often happens.

What I haven’t seen lately is a credible study that shows how big and expensive the problem is.

Nor have I seen an honest attempt to write a law that would serve the needs of both builders and buyers, keeping the former honest and protecting the latter.

People being what they are, you also have to allow for the fact that buyers cheat, too. They make unreasonable claims and try to pull as many tricks as the builders do. How do you protect both sides without enriching the trial lawyers who finance Democrats’ campaigns?

Oops, nobody wants to shut off the Dems’ campaign contributors, do they?

    Better to sacrifice home buyers.

    1. and comments, but you don’t really want to screw the buyers in spite of the lawyers, because ultimately that will only give the lawyers further purpose to be in this situation?

Since 2003, the homebuilders have been using nonnegotiable clauses in sales contracts to waive all negligence claims. If the buyer is not savy enough to read through these clauses, which waives the buyers contractual rights to have house built without defect, they realistically have only two options; get screwed by the buyer or go to a lawyer and take it to court.

On that same line of sight, the Homebuilders are financing Republicans campaigns, and have gone to far in their lobbying efforts by recklessly campaigning against two Democratic representatives and trynig to strong-arm republican Representative Debbie Stafford because she had the guts to speak out against the Homebuilders while Minority Leader May and Rep. Balmer continue to their dirty work.

So, of course the Republicans point fingers at the lawyers as a distraction to the entire problem. They don’t want to fix the situation for the buyers since the builders are cushioning their back pockets.

If the builders would run an honest business, there would not be a need for the lawyers to be involved.
