Enter Tom Tancredo

  • by: Colorado Pols

It’s official, says the Rocky Mountain News:

Tancredo, R-Littleton, has toyed with the idea of running over the past year, mostly as a way to advance his crusade to stop illegal immigration.

He is considered a longshot in a GOP field that includes former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney and Sen. John McCain of Arizona…

His first stop is scheduled for 8 a.m. Mountain time (9 a.m. Central time) on news radio WHO-AM, the same sation where former President Ronald Reagan got his broadcasting start by recreating Chicago Cubs baseball games from the sports ticker.

Cry havoc…

  1. The good news may be that this goon will not run for re-election.

The bad news is that he’ll always be referred to as Tom Tancredo, Representative from Colorado, making ours state sound like a bunch of Klansmen.  Not what the Metro Denver Economic Development needs right now.

    1. If he runs for pres, does he have to give up his seat if he does not win the primary? Somebody like Musgrave would have to decide between the 2 since she is not a lock in her district (even though I think that a run for pres and losing the primary would actually help her, not hurt her). But TT is a LOCK in my district. It seems that he can run and if he wins the primary (very small chance; less chance than Ron Paul), then step aside. If he loses, he just continues with his seat. Now, the republican party will hate that, but it seems to me that he did so little to beat bill (and I voted for bill).

      1.   And even if the caucuses are moved up to Feb., will not the C.D. conventions still be held in May?
Tancredo will know by about 8:20 p.m. (Eastern Time) on Feb. 5th that the game is over, and can then announce on the next day that he is suspending his presidential campaign, return to Littleton, and announce that he’s running for re-election.
The question is:  will Wiens, Harvey, Balmer, Armstrong, Coffman, Norton, et alia step aside for the Big Bigot, or will one or more of them continue to run for the C.D. nomination…..

        1. e.g. Keyes, Buchanan, Kucinich, tend to stick it out for most of the nomination race? Those guys are about pressuring the major candidates into taking a stand on their pet issues, so I would be that we’ll see a lot of later primaries and caucuses showing our very own T.T. bringing up the rear with 3-5% of the vote.

  2. …where the other GOP members of the Colo. Congressional delegation stand on endorsements in the presidential race.
Has either Musty, Lamborn, or the Potted Plant offered even tepid words of encouragement (let alone an outright endorsement) of their delegation colleague?  If not, how has each managed to dodge answering the $64,000 question?
Isn’t it also customary for the state party chair to endorse the homestate candidate in the presidential race?  (I wasn’t in Colo. in ’84, but did not the Dem state chair endorse Gary Hart back then?)
Has the Wad Man endorsed Tancredo yet?  If not, why not?

    1. Benson has already come out and supported Romney.  Without people like Benson, TT doesn’t have a chance of getting significant home support.  Wadhams will want to make good with the money men like Benson more than supporting a going no where campaign like TT’s

    2. should be able to line up all his own Party’s players within his State for endorsements.  You didn’t hear prominent Iowa Democrats talking about candidates other than Tom Vilsack until he recently ended his campaign…to a big sigh of relief, I’m sure.

It’s pro forma in politics to root for the home state candidate publically.  When Gary Hart ran for President, he had the solid backing of all Colorado’s Democratic leaders.  And more recently, until just weeks before the DNC election, Colorado’s voting members were still supporting Wellington Webb for chair until it was clean Howard Dean had the votes locked up.

The fact that no one here’s sticking up for Tancreepo already should tell you it’s a stunt candidacy.

      1. And nicely put.  TT must not be living in reality if he thinks he has a serious shot of winning the nomination.  I wonder if he was even smart enough to talk to the powers that be in this state and see if he could get their support.  If he did, I don’t see how he could honestly proceed with this whole thing

      2.   I can understand Musty, Lamborn, Allard and the Wad Man remaining quiet and not endorsing Tancredo, but what of the dozen or so pretenders for his Congressional seat?
Has Wiens, Harvey, Andrews, Balmer, Armstrong, Norton, Coffman, Stafford, Spence, or any of the others contemplating a run endorsed Tancredo for President?

        1. I wouldn’t endorse him.  I would pull the whole “I will support the eventual nominee”.  What benefit would it give them to support a stunt campaign that no one else that matters in the state is supporting-unless of course they really do support his candidacy.  If they don’t, they would do good just to keep quiet about it at this point.

  3. Seems like we got a lot of nut jobs here and it is giving us all a bad name: Tancreepo-Dobson-Haggard-Musgrave-well you get the picture add your own names but should’nt these folks all be from Alabama or South Carolina or anywhere but here?

    1. wait, please don’t tell me that there’s a double entendre there.

Everyone you listed gives Colorado its unique blend of politics and western style that keeps this state neither red nor blue.

Keep the nutjobs close to home, keep everyone on their toes and maybe, just maybe, people will stop moving here.

  4. So, high-schooler Mike Tate, besides money, why did you decide to take the job as the blogger behind for “Tancredo for a Secure America?”

In the words of Lenin: “Sometimes–history needs a push.”

    So true, comrade.

As Master Tate also points out, Tancredo gets a bad rap as a racist.  It’s unfair!  Look, he voted for House Resolution 90:

“Congratulating Lovie Smith of the Chicago Bears and Tony Dungy of the Indianapolis Colts on becoming the first African-American head coaches of National Football League teams to qualify for the Super Bowl.”

Now how could a racist bastard vote for something like that?  I mean geez.

Plus, Tancredo’s friends with an L.A. talk show host…WHO IS BLACK!  I mean totally black, not milk chocolatey like that Obama guy.  Ha!  That ought to shut you all up.
