I have a dear realtive dying of breast cancer, and I can’t imagine that her husband would be out trying to advance his career when he should be home, taking care of a very sick, needy woman.
Coloradopols censored my first diary on this subject, apparently feeling I was being disrespectful and calous. But what I was doing is anticipating the after taste of the Edwards’ decision.
We all are sorry that Elizabeth has been hit with a recurrence, but not surprised. Cancer is unpredictable and a killer.
This is why those of us who are living with breast cancer in our families are wondering about the Edwards’ decision making.
Laura Ingram, a cancer survivor, was on Hannity & Colmes. She disclosed that she and Elizabeth have been pen pals the last year and a half and communicated today. She supported the Edwards’ decision, as did everyone appearing on Fox News.
I just don’t see any benefits to their running, given the pain and suffering Elizabeth faces in coming months. Chemo makes you sick, makes you want your spouse nearby, makes you want to be held and comforted.
While I see Edwards getting a lot of sympathetic attention and a bump in the polls near term, I wouldn’t be surprised if he winds up facing a backlash from people who, like me, wonder where his priorities are.
He made bad decisions as a trial lawyer, senator, vice presidential candidate, presidential candidate (anti-Christian bloggers) and now as a husband.
I have no faith in his decision making ability, given his poor chances of winning the primaries. He should go home and take care of business, imho.
I”m angry for his wife. I don’t care about the Democratic primaries.
If I”m mistaken and the first diary didn’t take for some technical reason, I apologize in advance for my rant.

when a private entity like Colorado Pols removes bloggers’ comments from their site, just like it wouldn’t be censorship if you got kicked out of someone’s house for expressing your opinion.
That said, if your first diary said what this one does then I’d find that out of character for the dead guvs.
But their decision to cut my post and pol reflects their immaturity as editors, and, I guess, if that’s how they want to play it, it’s their ball.
that your last paragraph is closer to the truth. But unless they weigh in we’ll never know for sure.
can you summarize what you said? I’m curious!
and posted a poll. I think I expressed my skepticism and wondered whether he would get a sympathy bump or a backlash.
From what I’m seeing on my board and here, he’s getting both. Public personalities are being very sympathetic. Nobodies hiding behind user names are more skeptical like me.
A lot depends on how the Edwards behave, how Elizabeth responds to treatments and the normal unpredictables.
Sorry if I offend people, but to me, this is not only a human story but a big political story, and I tend to analyze things quickly, if not accurately.
“Edwards Courts Breast Cancer Sympathy Vote.”
Entries like that are in horribly poor taste, and they will be removed, every time, from Colorado Pols. This has nothing to do with the candidate or the party, and it has nothing to do with a delicate discussion. The previous diary was classless and out of line, and we won’t let Colorado Pols devolve into a tactless dart board.
With that said, we have no problem with this diary. You can say what you want here, as we’ve always said, but you can do it with tact. Otherwise, we’ll take it down.
CO POLS you are the biggest hypocrite of them all! It’s ok for you to propigate a natsy smear ad how on earth do you justify that. I guess its ok if it helps the candidates you like but if it attacks them to its not allowed.
So they did in fact pull your blog. Since they left up Demogirl’s diary I think that’s hypocritical. Granted, I think you do try to get a rise out of people with the way you phrase your observations, but then what is Demogirl’s motivation?
Skeptic I think what you said is pretty cynical and pushing the envelope a bit, and I don’t agree with it, but I don’t like the fact Pols is pulling your stuff off the site. What some people regard as tasteless other people regard as thought provoking.
Attacking Democrats is tasteless.
is a highly subjective value judgement, which was what I am getting at.
what i WAS getting at. And if Pols gos down that slippery slope this will be just another politically correct blog that no one bothers to visit.
Not everything is kosher. I didnt read the thread, so I dont know what was in it, but the title is certainly suspect.
The points made in this diary are fine, and they can obviously be made without a headline that mocks an announcement that someone’s wife has cancer.
Likewise, you can say “I don’t like Tom Tancredo” without saying “Tom Tancredo is a f***** a*****.” If you don’t see a difference, sorry – but we do. If you don’t want to be civil, go somewhere else. We’re not asking much – just that you show some decency.
Where’s the line on something like this? Unfortunately it’s not always clear. It’s like the old joke about the definition of pornography: it’s hard to define, but you know it when you see it. In this case, it was obvious to us. We’re not keeping a diary with a headline that says “Edwards courts breast cancer sympathy vote” when he just announced that his wife had a recurrence of cancer. You could replace Edwards’ name with anyone else’s name, and we would have removed it. We have always been clear that we would take action on posts and comments like this, and we always will.
Pretty tasteless posting in coloradopols’ Edwards thread, don’t you think?
Zap all tasteless threads.
Not tasteless?
Personally, I think they should have left your original diary up and let you take the heat (and you would have gotten plenty).
But the other thread is full of posts more insensitive than I was, and you should have heard the table talke I heard from some women tonight.
They think Edwards is despicable for abandoning his kids in this situation.
I can take the heat, and I do it elsewhere on the net more than here because I’m usually out numbered by the hard left.
some of the stuff people post here is tasteless and mean, but such is the nature of the beast.
Much better ways to make a point than to resort to name calling and “I know you are but what am I”…
So, I guess if you can’t take the heat, don’t post the post 🙂
of a timeout AND a trip to the woodshed. Try to stick to a more modest, tasteful approach like:
“There’s not enough political penicillin to innoculate Schaffer from all the political STD’s he’ll have if he gets in bed with Pat Tumor”
so as not to offend their delicate sensibilities:)
I think “Lampornagrapher” is pretty GD tasteless and Demogirl went off the deep end there. I think she’s trying to be clever but came off as a left-wing Ann Coulter. If AS’s prior thread was deleted, than that diary should have been too.
or I should say I have a high threshold on an “offens-o-meter”. I don’t mind drawing the line at unsubstantiated rumors, but for the most part, bloggers who post tasteless stuff get called on the carpet and have to answer to the “crowd”. That provides a certain degree of restraint for most.
I think unsubstantiated rumors (e.g. Moonraker’s contention that Ritter’s accident in Africa was criminal) are a lot worse than “Lampornographer.” Tasteless and offensive aren’t the same, and I laughed at Demogirl’s diary (along with lots of other tasteless posts, especially those from our reigning Polster of the Year.) And you’re right, there’s a self-policing tendency among us bloggers.
I just agree that the Pols’ definition of tasteless seems inconsistent and I’d hate to think that partisanship has anything to do with it. If they had left AS’s original diary up I’m sure many bloggers would have shown him what for, just like Gecko got yesterday. Instead we’re discussing whether Pols was right to pull it. This gives weight to the argument that it’s a liberal blog and may cost them credibility. (This coming from someone who doesn’t mind if they are left-leaning, and supports their right to pull whatever they want. But how they exercise their discretion can affect their reputation.)
:funny:
I accept coloradopols’ right to edit content. I’ve done it myself on my board. And I am a strong believer in letting the blog self-regulate the posters. When someone gets out of line, they hear about it. Some care. Some don’t.
In this case, I’m getting mixed messages, as is coloradopols, which is ok. You are what you post. Some people don’t like me or my posts, nor I theirs. And your blog is what you publish. On balance Coloradopols is owned and operated by lefties but lets us independents and the conservatives have their say.
Coloradopols decides what goes on the home page and lefties out number independents and conservatives, so the left rules and the independents and conservatives keep the blog from becoming too boring.
The problem with my first post is that I was the first to go out on the limb and speculate that the Edwards would seek the sympathy vote. My post seemed ‘tasteless” to Coloradopols and they yanked it.
Since then, there have been a lot more “tasteless” posts on the Edwards, which aren’t being deleted, because Coloradopols apparently now realizes that there is considerable concern about the Edwards’ decision, and it will be discussed, like it or not.
Kati Couric will interview them on 60 minutes Sunday, confirming my speculation that the Edwards will milk this for all it’s worth.
They chose the most lefty network, the most lefty interviewer and the most watched show to make their case.
That’s politics.
It will be interesting to watch the show, which I’ve generally avoided since Rathergate.
White House spokesman Tony Snow, who will have a tumor surgerically removed and is a cancer survivor, approves of Elizabeth Edwards’ decision to continue on the campaign trail.

From the AP report:
The news came a day after Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, announced that her breast cancer has returned in an incurable, but treatable, form. Her husband’s campaign will go forward.
“The biggest problem you have sometimes with cancer is flat-out fear,” Snow said. “When you see an Elizabeth Edwards saying, `I’m going to embrace life and I’m going to move forward,’ that is a wonderful thing.”
