Rocky does good story on taxi bill

The Rocky’s Chris Walsh shows how the paper’s business section can do a better job of covering legislation (House Bill 1114)  that affects the taxi industry than political reporters can.

Lightly regulated markets that are regulated to benefit consumers always work better than highly regulated markets that regulators control on behalf of the ologopolists.

Thus, the legislature has a chance to create a lightly regulated market that will benefit consumers, replacing the current scam that screws taxi drivers and consumers.

If the legislature opens the market to more participants, rates will come down, service will improve and more companies will strive to become known for providing great service to the handicapped and feeble as well as to the airport business.

Cab operators thrive in cities where the cities set rates, and I would continue to have rates set by a commission that is totally independent of the taxi industry. My impression is that rates in Denver are highway robberies, but I don’t use cabs here so I don’t know.

Should taxi regs be changed?

Should all cabs charge the same rates set by a rate setting board?
