Tancredo's Car Wrecked by Staffer

This was too funny, and sad, to ignore:

Rule No. 1 for congressional staffers: Don’t borrow your boss’s car without telling him. Or maybe it’s “Don’t blog about your sex life.” In either case, the car thing is pretty high up there.

If you must break that rule and slip away with the keys, at least don’t get in a wreck.

And, if you happen to break both of those rules, don’t then tell the Capitol Police the congressman gave you permission to take it. Officers know how to reach members, even when they’re on a retreat.

Apparently, one of Rep. Tom Tancredo’s staffers didn’t get the memo.

Yes, it’s true–according to The Hill‘s Under the Dome blog, a Tancredo staffer took the Congressman’s Toyota Prius out for a joy ride and then wrecked it before he could return it without the Congressman noticing.

      1. then I’m sure Mr. Shulteis would have been happy to inquire about their citizenship status for us.  No deaths here, though, so it’s small potatoes.

  1. Pols, the big story here is not the accident, it’s the tragic fact that Tancredo actually owns one of these granolamobiles!  Does he have a blue and yellow equality sticker on the back?  How ’bout, ‘arms are for hugging?’  He must! He must!

    Hahahahahahahahahaha!

      1. I AM impressed that Tancredo drives a Prius, even if only in DC and he tools around the West in his tax-subsidized macho-truck.  I have one more confession:  I heard that GW is among the majority of Americans who admit to kissing their dogs (American dog-owners that is, human-companions for those of you in Boulder).  Thus I find agreement with both Tancredo and GW on at least one thing.  All proving my basic ethical understanding, that the moral world is complex.  Apparently even Bush and Tancredo–as terrible as they are as political leaders–have some redeeming qualities. George kisses Barny and Tom drives a Prius.

  2. The fact that he is driving a Prius in D.C. is not really a big suprise. The Prius gets the best fuel efficiency when driving in the city, especially with a lot of stop and go traffic. It is in the financial interests of even the most selfish people to own a hybrid in a situation like that.

        1. I haven’t seen it yet.  I remember reading a “news” item a while back about a Mayor who bought a hybrid vehicle.  It went on and on in excruciating detail.  I was afraid it would become a serial story, “Next Week, the Mayor’s compost pile!”

I’ll buy a hybrid when the price comes down a little, because it will save money on gas.  And yes, I would do it for purely selfish reasons, no kudos need apply.

          1. 3/29/2006 It is episode #141 and is called “Smug Alert”.
            Very funny.
Now I don’t know these details by heart. I did a quick Google search.
It is well worth watching. Actually many of their episodes have a touch of reality in them and make fun of people’s histeria. This is one of them just like the one with Al “Nobody Loves Me” Gore.

              1. Did you catch the new season premier of South Park tonight?
Freaking hilarious. It took me awhile to catch on to what they were going after but it was based on something I heard a couple days ago. Somewhere (I didn’t get to hear which city or state) is wanting to ban the use of the word “nigger”. Silverman and Caplis were talking to guests about it a few days ago.
The new South Park is based on that only they banned the word “nigger guy”. (Meaning all white people are said guys)

      1. it all depends on your motives. If you are doing it because you are concerned with green house gas emmissions, that’s great. But if you are a slef-described defender of the american worker, and then buy a foreign car, it’s a rather hypocritical.
