Democrat Ken Gordon has conceded the race for secretary of state in an e-mail sent to supporters this evening. Republican Mike Coffman is the new secretary of state.

    1. I have heard that Ken Gordon has an e-mail that list that takes almost a day to send out to, due to the number of people on it.  I just received one a few minutes ago.

    2. Ken Gordon has regularly proclaimed that he has over 70,000 people on his email list. I have friends who tend to get it almost a day before I do. Ah well, I suppose good things are worth waiting for. Keep it up, Ken!

  1. As a losing candidate, Gordon has some legal remedies to protest the Denver
count.  Instead of making “nice nice,” I wish to hell he had gone to court.  The problem in Denver is that all the elected officials without exception were elected by processes set up by the Denver Election Commission. Any investigation  might call into question their own wins.  Therefore, an independent investigation is critical and evidently impossible.  But Ken Gordon does get the gold star on his forehead for being a good little boy.

    1. Would the estimated 18,000 voters who turned away in Denver been enough to tip that race?  Probably not, but Ken still ran a great campaign.

To the best of luck to you in the future Ken.  I am sure you will work hard to remedy many of these issues during the up-coming session as the Senate Majority Leader.

      1. One perspective is that the race is over. The process was a bureacratic nightmare. People of good will now gather together and find a better way,

The other perspective, to which I hold, is that we don’t know if this was just a bureacratic nightmare or something more dangerous.  An independent investigation, which as far as I can tell can only come from a court, can examine exactly what went wrong, from a legal point of view. Were procedures followed? How was the counting process protected from manipulation? Were their security breaches in the handling of paper ballots?
You have to look at paper as there is no way to double check the bulk of the electronic machines.

If there are irregularies which compromise the integrity of the process, then I don’t know what the legal remedies are for the losing candidates.  If laws were broken, there are criminal penalties.  And, didn’t this IT Director replace an IT Director who was removed and charged with embezzling from the DEC?
Was there ever any investigation of how was able to  happen?

Democracy is not a circle game. Someone wins and someone loses. This country is only about one thing and that is making sure the rules are fair and everyone plays by them. I don’t know what happened this time around.

    2. Actually, I’m quite blown away by well Ken Gordon has run this whole campaign.  It’s very refreshing to see a campaign that was run impeccably, without the kind of questionable claims and partisanship seen in other races.  Especially in a race for Secretary of State, I think it speaks extremely well that Ken didn’t play politics at all, and instead chose to use his campaign as a vehicle for getting people talking about election issues.  Ken obviously has a lot of respect for Mike Coffman, and he treated him accordingly.

To me, that’s worth a whole lot more than a Secretary of State position.

What’s a court gonna do, anyway.  They can’t order that Ken Gordon be granted votes he didn’t get.  A lot of people are going to be interested in fixing Denver’s electoral problems, but Ken suing someone would not have been a positive contribution to that process, and I’m sure he realizes that.

    3. Look, Gordon is the head of the senate majority. In addition, Coffman is a decent and hardworking individual. He is not corrupt. He is not beholden to any industry. And he is able to work with the controlling Dems. All in all, this is a win-win situation.

In addition, Gordon’s demeanor in all this is outstanding. Hopefully, all others can learn from this. About the only other person that I have seen in recent poltics that display this is Virginia’s Allen.

  2. Ken is a class act.  I hope that Ritter appoints him to something to continue Ken’s public service, especially since Ken is termed out in 2008 🙁

  3. He’ll do a good job, and he knows how to work with the governor and general assembly.

Gordon knows the issue and will be a real asset in the senate, and, I think he’s set himself up for a bright political career. We all know him better, now, and he’s learned a few things about running a campaign that will help him down the road. Needs a shave and a hair cut, however.

        1. I never made comment on whether Ken was good looking or not, did I?  I was referring to his official photo which a) doesn’t make him look very good, and b) who wants a squinty SoS?  Looks dishonest.

Abe Lincoln probably couldn’t get elected today with all of our visual media.

Please read the content of a post before you veer off into some creative comment.

  4. when will people realize mike coffman is a loser? he’s not as pathetic as ken gordon, but he’s close. coffman ran away to iraq because he didn’t  want to get married and he couldn’t beat bob beauprez or marc holtzman in a primary. hey, another skeptic–aka mike coffman–why don’t you admit you’re barely better than phoenix rising–aka ken gordon–and leave politics to the pros. I hear you’re so corrupt, you’ll be lucky to be sworn in.

  5. Can anyone explain how Steve Ludwig were behind by similar numbers on election night. Now Ludwig is ahead and Gordon is behind by just about the same number he was behind on election night?
