We already wrote that Sen. Jim Isgar and Republican Mark Larson are lobbying for jobs in the Ritter administration, but these two aren’t the only legislators looking to move on up.
Sen. Abel Tapia has been openly campaigning to be CDOT Director for more than a month and has even enlisted Southern Colorado donors to lobby on his behalf. Tapia is stressing his engineering background and that he would bring ethnic and regional diversity to the cabinet.
Boulder Sen. Ron Tupa has also been lobbying for a job – any job – in the new Ritter administration.
Ritter was reportedly put off by the lobbying efforts of Tapia and Tupa prior to the election, feeling that they should have been spending more time working to elect Democrats than working to get jobs later. Isgar and Larson probably have better chances of getting bigger jobs with Ritter than either Tapia and Tupa.

“Ritter was reportedly put off by the lobbying efforts of Tapia and Tupa prior to the election, feeling that they should have been spending more time working to elect Democrats than working to get jobs later.”
It seems a bit harsh to me if Ritter refuses to give good Dems jobs because they lobbied for them. He was certainly lobbying hard for his job during that time!
I don’t how much time this lobbying took, but unless it was two hours a day or something, I can’t see how it would prevent their assisting Dems to get elected also.
Is not always such a “good dem”. . . ask around.
so who the hell does he think he is to bitch about other campaigns not doing enough.
We won a Republican Congressional District, picked up seats in the House the Senate, won the Treasurer’s office and the SOS race is still pending. What the hell are you bitching about?
I know you have been a strong advocate for Ken Gordon, but come on, this is absurd. We won a landside of races in Colorado and badboy is whining like a baby. Grow up, wait for the results, take it like a man, and work harder next time.
And stop scapegoating! You sound like a Republican.
than an advocate. Badboybilly was a Gordon campaigner (AKA shill). That’s fine, but his bellyaching about Ritter not doing enough for Gordon is sour grapes.
Tom Plant knows more about budgets and policy than anyone in the State of Colorado.
Tom got along with both sides on the JBC. Ritter would be crazy not to hire him and put him in charge of his budget.
Tapia and Tupa are lucky to cross the street without getting hit or in Tupa’s case arrested. Tapia better worry that Joan Fitz-Gerald will realize that he brings nothing to the JBC and remove him.
on Tom Plant, he’s solid. I wish he was more of a front-runner for CD-2.
with both above comments.
FYI: JBC members from the Senate are elected not appointed. In the House they are appointed by leadership. . . .
Plant is smart, but he doesn’t have the technical expertise to run Ritter’s budget office. Owens did well by hiring people who weren’t politicians to develop his budget. Ritter needs an economist who understands the technical aspects of budgeting. Plant doesn’t have those skills.
In the House JBC Members were elected until 2005. In the Seante they are still elected. There is one elector. Joan Fitz-Gerald.
Agreed. Fitz-Gerald has a lot of input. She could easily sway her colleagues to remove Tapia. However, the House leadership appointed its members prior to 2005 though.
