  1. Coloradans look like a bunch of evangelical Christian values voters who vote for Democrats.  Democrats win big and so does marriage and Biblical sexuality????  What do you Democrats think of this?  What does this say about Democrats that evangelicals are voting Democrat?

    1. means a whole lot less to the voter than it does to the party officials.  I’m nominally a Republican.  I have no problem at all on splitting my vote.  The only ballot issue I really cared about tonight was 40.  I am laughing my butt off that John Andrews has lost another one.  More than anyone else, including George Bush, that obnoxious little jerk is why the GOP is having trouble in CO.

      1. I voted no there and I’m a “base” Republican.  My theory is this: the Latinos.  What can I say?  Rove was right.  He said leave immigration alone and go for the social issues and war on terror.  Beauprez and company said “oh screw it let’s get after those Mexicans!!”  I love Bob and Rick but they were wrong.  So wrong.  This is clearly a very conservative state socially.  But Latinos aren’t tied to the GOP like evangelicals because of the family values.  I promise that if the GOP dumps the anti-immigrant meme, plays to the middle with less ardent libertarianism, and talks more about moral values they win big in Colorado.  People in Colorado clearly care tons about life and marriage and not so much about immigration (they also voted yes on “c”).

I told Rick himself that he should support Bush and go with the war on terror and pro-life issues.  He said he’d rather go after the moderate anti-immigrant voters.  Dumb move, Rick.  Values, values, values!

        1. FFF, “Smoked” “Smoking” I really don’t care.  Your values are not mine. Certainly, the catholics could take a lesson from New Life on how to handle deception and “evil doing” among clergy. So don’t link the two religious groups.

I am waiting for a good analysis of the voting patterns.  Two questions: One is the degree to which voting problems in Denver depressed the progressive vote and second is the degree to which the Colorado Springs vote was greater than anticipated as a backlash against the Haggard scandal.

  2. We had a similar phenomenon with ammendment 2 where it polled so strong but was a different story when the voters close the curtain and push the button. I am a fiscal conservative with a very liberal social stance. I supported Ref I and thought for sure it was a common sense alternative that would win. I can’t figure this one at all. Dems win both houses and the mansion but loose on ref I?

  3. We got smoked!  But I’m so happy about Ref. I getting pounded I’m actually pretty upbeat.  As long as Guv Ritter doesn’t go after gay unions through the legislature I really am not too broken up about the elections.  We’ll make our message more pro-values (we as in the GOP) and cater to the Latino vote and win big in ’08.  I’m just afraid that Ritter funds planned parenthood and goes for a gay bonanza.  My guess is that given his socially conservative campaigning he won’t do that until after ’08.  If he does he’ll lose all the evangelical and catholic good will he has now.  Looks like Man-Whore Mikey only got himself a drug investigation!

    1. I know the press was mostly about the Rev but do you think the timing of the male prostitute coming out with his story hurt Ref I? I know a lot of Gays were counting on the people thinking hey we are your neighbors and co-workers and then this happened. Just a theory..

  4. … is that with 72% of precincts reporting, it appears that approximately 24% of Colorado voters are in favor of obsolete provisions in the state constitution.

    Seriously… huh?

  5. Colorado voters are just imbeciles when it comes to gay rights. We’re all a bunch of Ted Haggards – afraid that if we dare to acknowledge the humanity and basic decency of the gays among us that it will open up “repulsive” and “dark” tendencies. I’m embarrassed for us.

    1. It is sad that people within this state can not get over their own hatred and bigotry and just let people live their lives with all the same rights and priviliges that are afforded to every american. Hopefully, someday, those people will realize how daft and hateful their position is.

      1. According to Pew/Rassmusen between 65% and 75% of the U.S. believes in the literal word of the bible.  That’s a really tough concept to grasp if you’re in the 25% that is skeptical.  What I see now is that the jews are off the list, women are off the list, blacks are off the list and we are left with foreigners and gays if we want to define a group that medieval scholars know as ‘the other’.

“Where they burn books, in time they will burn people.”

    2.   I don’t think the Dems will touch domestic partnerships in the legislature next session because of the vote on “I.”  We need to give that issue a few more years.  (The good news is that the vote on “I” wasn’t as bad as it was in ’92 on Amendment 2.  Progress, of sorts….)
The legislature will probably pass an Employment Nondiscrimination Act which should ban discrimination based on sexual orientation, and Ritter will probably sign it.
Unfortunately, it won’t help Rev. Ted keep his job…….
