Poll: We're Sick of Calling It The "Big, Beautiful Bill"

With the U.S. Senate now considering the reconciliation budget measure christened by President Donald Trump the “Big, Beautiful Bill” to slash Medicaid, food assistance, and other funding across the depth and breadth of the federal government in order to pay for extended tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and still managing to grow the deficit by trillions of dollars over the next decade, we’ve come to the realization–belatedly in the eye of some readers–that since this legislation is pleasing in neither an aesthetic nor pecuniary sense, and only “big” in terms of the damage it will do to Americans least able to absorb it, it’s time to stop using the Republican branding of “Big, Beautiful Bill” to describe it.

Yesterday, we gave the substitute moniker “Huge, Horrible Bill” a trial run, around the same time Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer debuted the “Well, We’re All Going To Die Act” in honor of Sen. Joni Ernst’s memorable response at a town hall last week to questions about Medicaid cuts. We’re ready to revise the Official Colorado Pols Stylebook (this doesn’t exist but we do try to remember stuff) to consistently brand this legislation for posterity, but we’re turning the question over to readers to settle on a single name for this bill–or suggest a better one than our ideas in comments.

What should we call the GOP reconciliation budget bill going forward?

  1. Call it what it is:  The Large Steaming Turd.

For very different reasons, how often do Rand Paul and AOC find themselves on the same page?

    1. Same side but diametrically opposed reasons — Rand Paul (and Elon Musk) hate it because it doesn't hurt enough people, AOC hates it for exactly the opposite reason.

  2. I'm hoping the Senate will modify it in such a way that the House and Senate versions of reconciliation won't agree.

Then we can join with the *resident to say "Bill Who?  I never liked that anyway."

  3. Voted for "Not sure/other", not because I have another idea for a name but rather that "Not sure/other" seems to be a good description of what's in the bill.
