Kennedy On Air with Big Buy

  • by: Colorado Pols

Democrat Cary Kennedy, who is running for state treasurer, should be up on television tomorrow with a huge ad buy (we hear it’s in the range of $300,000). Kennedy and Republican Mark Hillman both accepted the spending limits provision, but Kennedy – ironically, considering the office – did a better job of saving her money and has more dough for TV.

    1. I agree…how much constitutes a big buy? My understanding is she put less then 200k in TV for two weeks which will be barely a blimp on the political ad radar with all the major campaign ads running. Conversely I believe Hillman put over 200k in radio and has been running ads for weeks now not to mention actually has a ground game.

  1. Does any one have a link to it or know what her message is?  We all knew she was going up the question is what kind of Ad is she going to do and will it help her?

  2. How many points did that get her? 500 statewide points?

I know it is a big buy but what is the cost per point? If it is 600 dollars per point like people say it is like peeing in the ocean.

  3. yes, it is ironic that hillman has sought to reach out to the entire state instead of just denver. making such an investment in the entire state may end up being a foolish waste of money, but i for one appreciate a politician who is not denver-centric.

and heres a question for all: what do mark hillman, steve jobs, bill gates, ted turner, jonathan hoenig and brad pitt have in common (other than their stunning good looks)?

you got it: none of them got a college degree. what complete idiots!

    1. What do Cary Kennedy and Enron’s Ken Lay have in
      common?

Three college degrees  – and no compunction against fudging the truth when it’s politically inconvenient.

        1. He just lies about it. There is a difference.

He is not as stupid as everybody makes him out to be. After all, on the news tonight, he openly said that he does not use e-mail because of how easy it it to trace things to him in later times. I do not know if that was his idea, but he is bright enough to realize that if you are going to be illegal and immoral, then you should not leave a trail.

          1. Function: adjective
a widely over-used word by hippies and those typically infatuated with that era to describe any position contrary to their personal beliefs in order to attempt to sway the uninformed masses

  4. Sounds like Kennedy has come close to maxing out on the TV buy one can fit in under the spending caps.  $300k spread over 2 weeks should be enough to get her name out, and if the ad is any good, she should get noticed and win, just because people will know who she is and won’t know squat about Hillman.

Two weeks of TV is the minimum advertising a statewide candidate should have if they want most voters to know who they are.  In 2002, over 1.4 million voters cast their ballots.  A spending limit of $500k, then, means that a candidate can’t even spend 33 cents per vote cast (and turnout in 2002 was low).  That’s not even enough for first class postage for 1 piece of mail.

Campaigns shouldn’t be decided based solely on who raises the most money, but this one likely will be.

  5. A $300,000 TV buy vs. zero is not too bad. Hillman spent nothing close to $300,000 on the radio. Kennedy had the good sense to use a top level media firm and to save her dimes and quarters for when she needed it the most.
