As Colorado Confidential reports, the airplane that Bob Beauprez and Gov. Bill Owens used to fly around the state on a campaign swing isn’t listed in any campaign finance reports:
The airplane in question is owned by Limerick Aviation, LLC, of Denver, which appears to have a connection to Gov. Owens. In 2001 a company named Limerick Holdings, listing the same address as Limerick Aviation and including “aircraft” as its business purpose, donated $4,566 to Bill Owens’ campaign for governor.
Colorado Confidential contacted Limerick Aviation to inquire about the cost of the Citation X jet and received a terse reply. “I cannot answer that question. Sorry. Bye-bye,” said a man named Roger who answered the phone and abruptly hung up.

They don’t know who paid for the plane ride? I could have found that information out from anyone on the street. “Who paid for the jet that Owens and Beauprez used to fly around the state?” “I don’t know.”
This could be an interesting story if there was any positive information showing that something shady was going on. All I see now is a lack of evidence.
If Beauprez is flying around the state campaigning without listing any flight expenses on his reports, that’s definitely a problem.
If CoCo can’t find it in the campaign reports, Beauprez is committing a big “no-no” – that’s supposed to be listed as a contribution (and a significant one at that…)
There is no record of who paid for the plane.
But there are other expenditures in that time period which could include travel. A $20k one about a week before to the nat’l GOP for a “campaign event.” Now I know that probably went to the Bush fundraiser… but who says the campaign event wasn’t flying around the state and speaking? Please tell me if I’m wrong.
That event was probably the Bush fundraiser.
It depends on whether the plane was otherwise for hire for the routes it was flying.
because United flies a hop between Denver and Co Springs, the gov and both ways can just get on a plane and fly for free between campain stops??? Making sure they also select the freeriders too? And, dictate when to take off and land??
You can drive a candidate all over the place without it counting as an in-kind contribution, as long as it’s in your private car and you’re not running a transportation service.
Same deal with planes. If you’ve got a plane that’s otherwise not for hire, you can fly a candidate around in it.
So the question is, can the general public hire Limerick jets? It doesn’t seem so. And this post doesn’t even try to make that case, instead alluding to how much it costs to hire the Citation – from other companies.
…to find out that the aircraft’s holding company, Limerick, shares an address with many other companies — most of which seem to be affiliated with Broe Companies and Broe Real Estate, owned by land developers Patrick and Paula Broe (both of whom have given a lot of money to the GOP, for instance, in 2004: http://www.fundrace….).
Seems like it would be easy for an up-and-coming investigative reporter to check and see if the campaign has listed these trips as “in kind” donations, as they are obligated to do by the law.
It’s just frequent flyer miles. Nothing to get worked up over.
run campaign? Wasn’t Greg Walcher fined thousands of dollars by the Federal Elections Commission for not reporting over $100,000 in campaign expenses?

I dont remember that. Can you provide link?

It’s at the bottom of the page.
Whata complete and utter waste using a Citation X to fly around CO is. They are beautiful, fast jets, for a trip from say, LA to Chicago. Flying from Centennial to say, Pueblo in a X is like picking up the paper at the end of your driveway in a limousine.
