  1. Here I was thinking our nation was shaped by corporate interests, the military industrial complex, and a drive for global hegemony driven by a fanatical belief in manifest destiny and American exceptionalism.

  2. Colorado Public Radio covered a meeting of five of the eight candidates for the Republican nomination in CO-03, the suddenly Boebert-less district.   Bereft of Boebert, 3rd Congressional District Republicans chart new path

Lauren Boebert’s decision to pivot to a new district for 2024 inverted the race from a question of whether Democrat Adam Frisch could close a 546-vote gap in November, to an existential one about who Republicans in Western and Southern Colorado will nominate to see the party forward.

One group likely to have an important say in the primary race ahead is Stand For The Constitution.… They were also backers of Boebert. But with her gone from the race, the group recently hosted five of the eight Republicans currently running for her seat.

There are candidates with a range of policies for Republicans — including one that said he would have backed the foreign aid & immigration reform that the House just sunk. CPR described 3 wannabes as “A Reformed Democrat, a Reagan Republican, and Ron Hanks.” The Hanks quote chosen for the article gives a pretty good idea of his position:

“I've been a conservative my whole life. I will fight for that until the end. If people don't want to vote for that, I am perfectly happy getting back to the things that need to get done, which are getting ready for the 9/11 moment and the civil war that this miserable, unelected, demented resident in the White House has set us up for,”

Hurd candidate had a scheduling conflict, so wasn't heard but had a statement read.

Going to be interesting to see what happens at the end of June — whether the district will choose the most-endorsed, best-financed Establishment Republican or an alternative closer in policy and tone to Boebert.  With Republicans in Revolt against each other, I think Frisch has a reasonable chance to occupy the seat for at least one term.

    1. Sounds as if Loren Ron Hanks is the winner he has always been. Wonder what the timeframe is for him to actually move to the 3rd District. I'm guessing he doesn't pull a Boebert and move right away. In fact, not likely he will have a reason to move come late June.

  3. Right-wing religious nutjobs are still at it!

Trump allies plan sweeping restrictions on abortions

Behind the scenes, specific anti-abortion plans being proposed by Trump’s allies are sweeping and legally sophisticated. Some of their proposals would rely on enforcing the Comstock Act, a long-dormant law from 1873, to criminalize the shipping of any materials used in an abortion — including abortion pills, which account for the majority of abortions in America.

“We don’t need a federal ban when we have Comstock on the books,” said Jonathan F. Mitchell, the legal force behind a 2021 Texas law that found a way to ban abortion in the state effectively before Roe vs. Wade was overturned. “There’s a smorgasbord of options.”

But of course they know this is extremely unpopular with the majority of citizens, and in particular, voters.  Their solution?

“I hope he doesn’t know about the existence of Comstock, because I just don’t want him to shoot off his mouth,” Mitchell said of Trump. “I think the pro-life groups should keep their mouths shut as much as possible until the election.”

    1. Who will make a move to assassinate or imprison opponents?

Crooks and Liars sums up the situation:

That sums up Trump in a nutshell. A egotistical, narcissistic clown, sucking dry MAGA cultists for their Social Security checks while offering up our NATO allies for chump change to Russia, as his legal team avers that Trump could assassinate his political opponents with no retribution unless he is first impeached and convicted by the entire Congress.
