The Rocky Mountain News has an interesting article today about campaign donations being linked to laudatory statements on the House floor in Congress:
One day in early 2005, eight employees of an Arvada-based defense contractor made campaign contributions to their local congressman, Republican Rep. Bob Beauprez.
Three months later, Beauprez praised the company on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. One week after that, the company president gave a small contribution to Beauprez’s gubernatorial campaign.
In August 2004, the CEO of an Englewood aircraft company made a contribution to the local congressman, Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo.
The next month, Tancredo lauded the company in a statement for the Congressional Record. And the following month, the CEO gave Tancredo a second contribution.
During the past four years, Rep. Mark Udall, an Eldorado Springs Democrat, has submitted five “extensions of remarks” into the Congressional Record, honoring people who had donated a combined $11,550 to his campaigns.
Beauprez, Tancredo and Udall are not alone. Since 2003, eight of the nine members of Colorado’s congressional delegation have made speeches or statements for the record about campaign contributors or the companies they lead, according to a review of official records and Federal Elections Commission data by the Rocky Mountain News.

Interesting that COPols will post this stuff (and yes, it’s fair game) but doesn’t post the story about Deanna Hanna insisting on “reparations” from the JeffCo Realtors.
Yawn. So they kissed some butt on the Floor. Big deal.
Another day, another suck up.

The Rocky Mountain News beats the crap out of the Denver Post on a daily basis when it comes to political news coverage, but this was a stupid nothingburger story.
pathetic attempt at journalism. what a joke. maybe the reporter should quit looking to make something out of nothing and report on something actually newsworthy.
