  1. Indictment day.  Hopefully the first of many.  Oh the anticipation and excitement of seeing the squealing and huffing and puffing.  It's going to be a spectacle to end all spectacles.

  2. Sometimes, even people you respect and who are generally thoughtful, can say things that are so wrong it can be difficult to understand.

One of the stupidest things said by a politician I have heard lately, is the suggestion by the First Lady to invite the University of Iowa womens' basketball team to the White House, along with the winners, the LSU Tigers.

The backlash could be considerable, and as I write this, I am told she is walking it back. I can only imagine how ANY mens' team would react.

    What is next? Participation trophies?

    1. Speaking of participation trophies, politically opinionated people in Denver don't get one if they don't vote.

Rant alert – I am tired beyond tears of "I want a voice, just not badly enough to turn in a ballot!"

I've written here about super-low early voting percentages, but if turnout for this election winds up in the 20%s, that is nobody's fault except the people who didn't vote. And the reason doesn't matter.

      1. I almost get the low turnout this time. Faced with so many unknowns on a ballot, votes in Denver are feeling like voting this year is too much like going back to school and doing homework. A lot of homework. It really is too much work for most voters.

We really do need to raise the signature counts for city office. That would go a long ways to keeping the non-serious candidates off the ballot. When you have at one point over 20 people running for mayor, yet only a half dozen are actually campaigning for it, it gets confusing.

Then. so much attention is spent on the mayor’s race, the complete cast of “Who?” that is running for City Council is almost ignored. I really only saw ads to NOT vote for one candidate for CC, none saying who I should vote for. I used to be very politically active (now happily retired from that madness) and I only knew one name on that list.

        1. I wouldn't be surprised if Westside spent more trying to defeat Candi CdeBaca, and putting their favorite candidates into office than they spent hoping to win 2 O (and that is almost a million dollars!).

Our campaign slogan was "Developers can't buy Denver", but dang it not for want of trying!

    2. OTOH, as far as participation awards go, I’m pretty sure Doug Lamborn has been to the White House?  And, I can’t imagine he hardly meets anyone’s definition of participant.

      1. Not presuming to speak for Duke, but: 1) White House invitations are as far as I know (almost?) always to the 1st-place finishers; 2) the LSU team that won is (almost?) all Black; 3) the Iowa team that finished 2nd is (almost?) all White.

It just seemed like bad optics to me. If someone wants to set a precedent that 2nd-place finishers also get the invite, fine by me, but maybe this one shouldn't have been the place to start.

      2. The question is,"Why is it a good idea"? If it is because they are "girls" and should somehow aim for a different outcome than the boys, then no, that's bullshit.

If she were suggesting the tradition be changed for all nation sports competitions, I have no problem with that if everyone accepts it, but it certainly removes the trip as a motive for winning.

The fact the Iowa team played well is great…they did, and we were rooting for them. I recognize the First Lady had the best of intentions, but most competitors would see it as a profoundly disrespectful  move. Can you blame them for seeing it as a zero-sum game?

I just think she could have honored Ms. Clark and the Iowa team in a less controversial way.

  3. More notable than TFG is the Vladmir Putin facepalm as the reality of defending an 832 mile border with NATO country Finland sinks in.

    1. Pootie-Poot's minions are already talking about a considerable increase in military forces in the northwest of Russia. Of course, they say nothing about where they wil get the troops.

The Russians have barely enough troops to defend the naval base at Murmansk and the nukes in Kaliningrad. And the Wagner Group has already emptied the prisons of many able bodied men to become cannon fodder in Ukraine.

      1. In today’s world, high tech armor/tanks/artillary/etc, puttie no longer has a military to use.  He shot his wad, so to speak, in Ukraine.  His military is stretched and being made into worm food. He can’t move from Pacific and China, someone there is looking to return to the old borders, hundreds of years old of course.  He can’t leave Africa, several countries are ready to step in there. And he has already moved a portion of the troops who were on the Finnish-Russian border to Ukraine, and their weapons.  Any move by russia into Finland, or the Baltic countries, would be met with immediate and deadly force.  Many of my cousins would be happy to take back what the Soviets stole in WWII.

  4. Indictment day.  Lots of sound and fury, but arraignments are pretty uninteresting.  I'm more interested in reading the actual indictment to see the charges and the probable cause supporting them
