Turnout in Denver municipal elections is still less than 6% with a week to go, per this pretty good story from Denverite. On a more positive note, by reading this story I learned of a civic engagement organization called "Warm Cookies of the Revolution."
Oh, "Warm Cookies" is awesome! I've been back very infrequently since the pandemic began, but I was a regular before that. I miss that crew…
As of last night, Denver reported Participation Count: 33,633 % of Total: 7.42% (of active registrations).
In 2019, the same number of days from the end of the election, there had been 46,896 votes. the final Monday & Tuesday, abuot 104,000 votes were cast, taking the overall voting to 186,402 … 45.9% of active registrations
An open Mayoral race with 17 candidates is going to cause a lot of headaches for voters that the 2019 situation did not.

I hope this leads to a couple of election reforms:
1) Ranked choice voting — take the angst out of guessing who has the best chance of making a 2 person runoff.
2) Lower caps on Fair Election Fund distributions. If you are capable of raising a million dollars for mayor, you probably don't need a half million more.
Yes, but ranked choice voting only works if people know about the candidates. One of the big problems in this race is so many unknown names.
Raise the number signature to get on the ballot – significantly.

He won’t win the runoff, however, because Denver.
So, I imagine that the second place ballot all-other (i.e., Democratic) winner in this scrum, will be the odds-on favorite next mayor of Denver?
If that happens, I hope the second place winner isn't Chris Hansen.
