Rocky Mountain News Endorses Coffman

  • by: Colorado Pols

The Rocky Mountain News today joined the Boulder Daily Camera in endorsing Republican Mike Coffman for Secretary of State over Democrat Ken Gordon:

The office demands a person who possesses leadership, experience and independence.

So we’re delighted that a candidate so clearly qualified for the job as Mike Coffman is on the ballot this year. Coffman – who served for nearly a decade in the legislature and is finishing his second term as state treasurer – is capable, well-informed and has a detailed plan for how the office should be run. He’s clearly the top choice in this race.

This is great news for Coffman and a very bad sign for Gordon.

  1. The Rocky is a right of center paper of course they are going to endorse their boy.  It would have been shocking if they had endorsed Gordon.

    1. they would have endorsed Beauprez.  They didn’t.  Just for clarification’s sake:

THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS HAS ALSO ENDORSED DEMOCRAT BILL RITTER FOR GOVERNOR.

  2. E.W. Scripps, the owner of both newspapers as well as the Colorado Daily, has a unified endorsement policy.  That is, once the Camera endorsed Coffman, it is not news that the Rocky did too, since they are the same.  Current conservative Daily Camera editor Sue Deans worked at the RMN until 2003.

Splitting hairs, the Daily Camera is indeed a conservative-leaning newspaper in its editorial and news coverage, as is the Rocky Mountain News.

what???, everyone is endorsing Ritter.  Even the Rocky couldn’t support Beauprez.  It’s not a difficult choice.
