  1. Steven Colbert showed a clip of Colorados' perpetual embarrassment, Lauren Boebert, making a speech on the House floor on the subject of regulations of guns.

It appeared to come to her ever so witty self, to make an offhand comment about the ATF. She said:

"Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms…in western Colorado, we call that a fun weekend."

    No further comment.

    1. Somebody has been replacing the AK-47 lapel pins with penis images. I even saw one photograph of gun-groomers where the whole family was holding giant pink (of course) penises.. or is it penisii.

  2. From Heather Cox-Richardson:

    The Biden Boom continues.

The breathless attention paid to the balloon starved a story that mattered far more in the long term: the economy under Biden has shown extraordinary job growth—another 517,000 jobs added in January—and the unemployment rate is at a low that has not been seen since 1969 (not a typo). Inflation is dropping. Today, Carly Wanna at Bloomberg noted that since the Inflation Reduction Act became law, more than 100,000 clean energy jobs have been created in the U.S. After months of reports that we are on the brink of a recession, today Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the chances of a recession are low. “You don’t have a recession when you have 500,000 jobs and the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years,” she said.

  3. Woke FBI? From Josh Marshall at TPM.

Like all upstanding Americans I’m eagerly awaiting the first hearings of the House GOP’s new “weaponization of the federal government” investigations committee. The first hearing will feature former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Sens. Ron Johnson and Chuck Grassley and what is being presented as an FBI whistleblower of sorts, a former FBI agent named Nicole Parker who says she left the FBI three months ago and is now a regular on Fox News. So she’s the one who will reveal how the FBI has become a haven of wokeness during her twelve year tenure.

I looked up this opinion piece she wrote for Fox News. And in addition to a lot of verbiage about wokeness and how the Bureau changed her one example was fairly revealing. She was offended that during the George Floyd protests in DC on June 4th a group of FBI agents in tactical gear kneeled before protestors in what they apparently saw as a de-escalation effort.

But by and large [the protests] were peaceful. And at the time, and still to many now, it was clear that the protests were in response to a horrible incident – a casual and indifferent murderer filmed and televised around them – which is part of a larger story of discrimination and patterns of abuse against African-Americans.

In Parker’s accounting it is treated as a given that the protestors were enemies or borderline criminals to whom any gestures of solidarity or sympathy merited discipline or termination.
