    1. When the 18 Republican members from Biden House districts won't go along with the proposed rules, the Gang of 20 will demand that "My Kevin" force them to do so. When that doesn't happen, I predict there will be the first motion to vacate the chair.

      2. I'm thinking the Main Street Republicans who will get shafted for Committee and Subcommittee memberships and chairs will "join right in there."

        Several have already talked about Cavin' McCarthy's excess consideration of the wants of the Freedom Caucus.  They may want to back away from some of the Rules proposed to give even more power to that group.

        1. I want to see the expression on Doug Lamborn's pudgy face when My Kevin bumps Matt Gaetz over Lamborn on the Armed Services Committee. So rich!

      1. Actually I'm agnostic so I don't think anyone has a soul. But by the standard meaning most give to it, yes I think he once thought of making things better. But he let his desire for the Speakership consume him.

        1. I don't know about his soul, but I do know he was castrated during that marathon. What I want to know, now is, who has them in their pocket? 

  7. The Speaker Election Process was Wonderful -It showed us as a vibrant, open, robust democracy

    This was a gigantic political fight, we all got to observe the fight and the parties involved. And most important, it was resolved the way it should be – with a vote. To repeat, this whole process occurred withing the framework of our democratic system. This is wonderful.

    Then you have the people worried about who won. Well, the Republicans not only won the most House seats, but they won the popular vote for the House1, by about the same percentage as their majority in the House.

    1. And we can lay the "popular vote" boast directly on the national and state organizations who did not recruit and support candidates in many of the "Red" districts.  In 2022, Ballotpedia found "21 U.S. House races without a Democratic candidate and 11 U.S. House races without a Republican candidate." Ballotpedia's method is "In California and Washington state, which have top-two primary systems, a race was counted as not having a Democratic or Republican candidate if no candidate from a major party advanced from the primary election to the general election."  So it is worth a mention that seven of those 11 without a Republican candidate were in California, and I know several of them had Republicans in the jungle primary.

      1. My statistics professor started the first class telling us "torture data enough and it will tell you whatever you want." Fair point on what you said but the bottom line is, I think, that the House is closely representative of the country.

        And it's a knife edge. I think it was 6,000 votes in 5 specific races, including Boebert/Frisch, and it would have been a Dem majority in the House. Probably 6,000 the other way and the Republicans would have had 5 more seats.

        We're in a weird time where for the last 20+ years it truly has been 50:50 with the battle lines hardening.

        1. I agree on the overall description of the House being "closely representative of the county."  That said, unopposed candidates run up the score.  WAPO assessment:

          In the 2022 election, there were many more uncontested House districts held by Republicans (14) than by Democrats (3). And there were another 10 districts in which the GOP had no major-party opponents, compared with just three for Democrats.

          Thanks to California’s top-two primary system, there are also another six districts in which Democrats have the votes all to themselves, because the two finalists are both Democrats.

          So effectively, there are more than 20 districts in which the GOP could run up the score, compared with a dozen for Democrats.

          Not contesting districts is bad practice, and Republicans benefit over Democrats by 24-6.

        2. One of my immediate supervisors; in my first job out of college in the early '70s; said there are three kinds of lies: lies, damn lies, statistics.

    3½ State Initiatives That Will Significantly Improve Our Democracy – Changing the election process, state by state, so that the voters pick their representatives

    Here are the 3½ initiatives that, if we can get them passed in competitive states, will go a long way toward giving us a more representative Democracy. And one with more people working to improve things and fewer focused on bomb throwing.

    So… is there a PAC out there that is focused on accomplishing this? And is their approach to identify the most effective group in each state to do this, and then feed them money and support? Because that is something I would happily write a check to.

        1. That is mostly an indication of her very limited and selective intake of information. When you have your head up Donald Trumps’ ass that far, you don’t really have a clear view of the world.

          The same people who extorted the 118th Congress were the congressional accomplices of the murderous attack on our Capitol and our Constitution. It is way past time to break up that collusion by indicting and prosecuting these criminals. Their expressed desire is to overthrow the government of the United States.

          It is time for the Justice Department to move decisively to bring a wave of accountability to this cabal of criminals and their capo di tutti capo.

          Garland tarries at OUR peril.

           

      3. the run-off election was Oct 30, and MTG was tweeting on 11/1/2022. 

        She was right … no one was covering civil unrest on November 1, because there was very, VERY little. 

        Even up to certification of the vote on Dec. 12, there wasn't much in the way of violence.

        I guess it takes 3 weeks or so for the Right to pull together an amateur-hour insurrection.
