  1. Another day, another opportunity for "My Kevin" to be humiliated by his conference.

Dogs may bark but the parade marches on.

      1. Maybe we should wait for the Maricopa County mail-in votes? Maybe propose a a Georgia runoff??

Can someone do the math on this?  Given Hakim has consistently gotten more votes than McCarthy doesn’t the “vote present” strategy give us a Democratic Speaker? (assuming there is no erosion of the 20 “Never Kevin” gang?

I think we’re deep into “Rule of Holes” territory.

        1. the rule is the winner must have a majority of those casting votes for a name.  If the Democrats continue to name Jeffries, Republicans would need to have 213 who vote for the name and everyone else voting present or not voting.

In a few of the pre-Civil War Speaker elections, there eventually was a willingness to change the rule and allow a person to win with only a plurality of the vote.

      2. “I wonder if he is referring to the plan to get enough members to withhold their votes so MyKevin doesn’t need 218…”

The problem is that the wrong people would be prepared to withhold their votes. None of the 20 in the screwball caucus would do that. The only ones who would do it are “My Kevin’s” supporters which makes the whole idea counterproductive – and if enough did it, would elect Jeffries.

    1. Lindsey should support Puerto Rico statehood as then Alabama or Mississippi would no longer be at the bottom of the state  success metrics’ rankings.

No statehood for DC until it gets back the land it used to own in Virginia. Retrocession was a terrible idea in 1847. The traitors should have been forced to return it in 1865.

  2. Ian Milhiser:

GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy is the culmination of what the Republican Party has become — a party that is so erratic and obsessed with petty grievances that no one who is competent to hold the position of House Speaker is stupid enough to seek the job.

    1. Gaetz wants to know why McCarthy is allowed to continue his occupation of the Speaker’s office. Prolly not a good sign for how today is going to go?

    1. Sadly not surprising.

Still concerning and still worth paying attention to, but not surprising.

Kudos to Clark and 9News for describing the reference and showing how absolutely backwards and wrong it was used by Wyatt.

      1. It would be funny if this meme were updated every time a vote was made. The first version I saw only had 2 McCarthy's and 4 speakers. The next had 4 McCarthy's and 8 speakers. This one has 5 McCarty's and a mix of speakers and Capitol buildings. I am definitely seeing a trend.
