      What’s fascinating about the new House majority, what makes it a great story, is how it embodies all the worst elements of what the Republican Party and conservative movement have become: anti-democratic, corrupt, unmoored from principle, ungovernable, uninterested in governing, cruel, and destructive — while also being comically absurd.

      But keep in mind the outrageous and transgressive conduct that the House GOP campaigned on, is promising to continue, and in fact revels in is its only real political currency. That is its appeal to its supporters. That is the point. It is performative, especially with Democrats controlling the White House and Senate.

3. It’s wonderful being a husband.

   I mentioned yesterday morning that I was out of Kleenex on my bedside table. A couple of hours later, a new box magically appeared.

   I do not understand why my wife says it takes time to keep the household running…

4. I am to the point where no negative story about Trump surprises me. It's not new. It's not news.

   What would surprise me is a story of actual selflessness from Trump or the trash-fire Republican Party actually holding Trump accountable for his actions.

   I hope to be surprised.

   After the riot of January 6, Trump advisor Hope Hicks exchanged horrified texts with Julie Radford, Ivanka Trump’s chief of staff, bemoaning that the Trump family was now “royally f*cked.” “In one day, he ended every future opportunity that doesn’t include speaking engagements at the local proud boy’s chapter,” Hicks wrote, “And all of us that didn’t have jobs lined up will be perpetually unemployed…. I’m so mad and upset. We all look like domestic terrorists now.” “Not being dramatic, but we are all f*cked,” she wrote.

   Conservative Atlantic columnist Tom Nichols tweeted: “Their concern for the Constitution they swore to uphold is so touching.”
